Suggestion to "long term" fix 5c vote sniping

(Recognizing that voting may not even be relevant "long term"), but following on from https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/suggestion-to-quick-fix-5c-vote-sniping.517663/ , and applying the same logic (i.e, attempting to prevent the easy abuse of the voting system), I'd suggest that Voting be tied to Squadrons (i.e, move the voting mechanic to the Squadron menu, accessible to the squadron owner only), and have the number of Votes be a reflection of the amount of "PowerPlay" points the squadron has accumulated. Nothing too onerous, but enough to ensure that votes are at least somewhat a reflection of the amount of PowerPlay effort the squadron has done in the last current "season" (or ideally in the past week). This still allows anyone who wants to "cast their own vote" to do so by simply creating their own squadron, but since it does provide a higher level of visibility, since you have the ability to "see" squadrons, their PowerPlay points, and which faction they're pledged to.

Although it would be fun to see where the votes come from, with alt accounts and AFK farming its too easy to abuse.

In your system, what if 5C are putting in the effort (as in the crazy prep hauling they do each week)? Plus I can hear the cries of solo commanders in the distance squealing about having no squadron etc.

Personally, I'd prefer votes removed in a radical overhaul and PP swapped to a more BGS like structure. That way, 5C is impossible and opposition is most effective in actually playing against you. I do accept though that this would require a PP 2.0 which I doubt FD will ever do.

To some degree, if they're putting in the effort, they "deserve" the votes. The mechanics around 5c hauling are a different conversation. As for Solo Commanders, they can make Solo squadrons if they want. As long as the vote strength is a reasonable function of squadron size vs. points, and the vote strength of a single-person squadron isn't more then the aggregate vote strength of a similiarily active multi-person squadron.

Yeah, a radical overhaul of Powerplay would likely make this suggestion moot, but since even a radical overhaul is likely to be based on the the same (or similar) underlying mechanics (barring a complete rewrite which I think is unlikely), we have to assume there will still be "Voting" of some form or another.

IN fact, we kinda already know there has to be some form of squadron based "control" mechanism, in order for the Fleet Carriers to work. You can't have everyone in the squad telling the ship to jump somewhere, so there's going to have to be some form of Squad Leader screen that directs it. This same screen could easily have a button to control voting as well.
