SUGGESTION

This is a minor suggestion that probably isn't worth the time to do, but it's worth it to ask.

A change I'd like to see has to do with the galaxy and planetary maps. When I open them I feel like it's taking me out of the game, breaking immersion. I'd like them to open in such a way to feel like I'm still in my ship, maybe a holo-display on the bridge or something.

Might just be me. :)

Not at all 'just' you. I agree completely, and would love to see a more integrated map display in the left-hand 'NAV' screen.
I totally understand why FD designed it as it currently is, and the map sets are quite decent, but I would prefer to use the NAV panel for actual NAV. :)

The way we switch screens is very basic .... a more subtle method would be to access a smaller image from the nav screen and it expands to full size when we click on it (or press a key). It would be a little more immersive, and less 1990's.

It's "good enough" and we live with it, but "good enough" is not being best. But, I guess they have other things to do ....

on the right or left navigation screen would be in my opinion too small, especially for the FSS and maps.

but maybe directly on the canopy of the ship, although I can not imagine how to implement this well, the problem is also about the controls.

I get an idea, make an animation of the character who takes a tablet with his hand and zoom in, we would have the impression to change activity without loss of immersion, gives the impression of paying attention to something other than the dashboard.

yes, it lacks a lot of character animation, we only have the head and the hand that moves from time to time, more animation would help immersion, but normally it happens (well I hope).

The best way to do this would be to create an animation where your head turns to the left or right panel, and then your view zooms in to the map screen.

It's been done in many games. Maybe the devs haven't thought of this yet, or maybe they're just going for the easy way out.

So your idea is to have exactly the same away from cockpit view but with an extra canned transition? What's wrong with a HUD overlay like station services?

If you select the map form the left screen, your head already turns to the front. All it would need is a very fast animation in the front view. Something less than half a second of the map being drawn.

It doesn't help that the GUI style is completely different to all the other in-ship displays.

Now THAT I could go for - if not the pilot's hand lifting a tablet, then perhaps a wall-mounted arm that comes out and fills the field of view? It could be a quick and generic sort of animation; just something to indicate we're looking at a specific ship's system.

why not, in any case I think that an animation will help to make the access to the FSS and the map more immersive while keeping its size (on all the screen).

Word of advice, OP.

You'll get more interest in your suggestion, and perhaps have more chance of impact on the game itself, if you briefly describe your proposal in the title of your thread. You don't need to state that it's a SUGGESTION, because we're in the suggestions section anyway.

'Open galaxy maps without breaking immersion', perhaps. Or something a lot more punchy than that, ideally. Make your pitch! Sell your idea!

I agree the title could be improved, but the thread started in DD & was moved to here.
