[Suggestions] Changes to the Economy and some core gameplay elements

FDev and Community,

Wanted to share some suggestions for future updates; some things to make the galaxy feel less lonely, trade more lucrative, and create some new career pathways.


  • The bubble feels lonely, let's bump up the AI traffic in populated systems to show heavy, economy-specific trading traffic. Adjust the police patrols based on the traffic and security level in that system.
  • Continue to offer missions based on system and station needs but also offer in-system courier missions to distribute goods across the factions' network.
  • Create a job specialty program with factions thus enabling players to be assigned jobs based on their work type rather than sorting all available missions for their preference. For pilots who go above and beyond, have other factions reach out and offer work in different parts of the galaxy.
  • Piggybacking off of above, adjust pay for devoted traders to measure not only jobs completed but levels of completion, professionalism, speed, and safety. Offer bigger money and more dangerous jobs to traders flying with security, etc.
  • Add another seat to larger ships like the T7 and introduce an electronic warfare system that copilots/gunners can utilize in weaponless trade ships to jam enemy radar and make them less of an easy target. Anyone familiar with Naomi in The Expanse knows that she is a wiz at that kind of stuff, would be nice to have that in your back pocket if you're a trader.

  • In systems with high player population, reduce or remove the commodity refresh in the market. Instead offer bigger incentives to source materials from supply systems. If the population moves, adjust accordingly. Players will either stay and do their part or bounce around the galaxy. Hopefully, they do their part.
  • Offer rewards for hunting smugglers, allow people to take on a career as an enforcer for their system/for their faction.
  • Introduce job-specific megacorps to work for; Universal Cartographic, trade conglomerates that supply just food or rocks/minerals from the rings. Give player factions more tools to interact and expand in the galaxy. Engage in corporate espionage or sabotage.
  • For the hardcore space trucker/sim fans - introduce more system management to allow procedural cold starts and system shutdowns. Give the ships more depth that is optional and based on players skill and preference. Loving Rogue System right now, would love some of that sys management in Elite.
