Engineers Suggestions for how to save abundant Engineer mats in storage for later?

I am grinding Empire rank and doing freight and courier missions between systems, I get loads of Engineering mats as payment, and I have no intention of going over to an Engineer and using them right now, I will probably keep grinding rep for the rest of the week, maybe even the week after that. So how do I move my mats from my cargo hold to some place safe, in a reliable and smooth fashion? I have different mats on different ships, and if I deliver all my cargo so that my cargo hold contains only mats I want, how can I know that moving my largest cargo module into storage will take the mats with it? Are the mats not spread out over all my cargo modules? I received some of them when my cargo hold was 75% full, so they should be stuck in one of my 2E cargo modules, logically.

And if I were to move all my cargo canisters from my ship to Storage, they would be lost among the other cargo modules because they have no        g identity. How should I save left-over stuff for later in a smart and not-time-consuming way?

No possibility to save cargo. If they deny some ships or gameplay you must dump them or sell them for an utterly low price. Grind again at a later date.

That's Frontier's design or their inability to add cargo storage. We are all tortured with this.

Thank you for the reply.

Also, sorry for such a basic question, but it was six months since the last time I talked to an Engineer. If I have the mats for, say, a grade 3 Pulse laser "Efficient" upgrade, can I just built it at that Engineer, or do they require me to first have built a grade 1 and grade 2 version? Forcing me to get the mats for those too?

no you can skip to whichever grade you want, I usually do whatevers cheapest to get the engineer to 5 then just slap a 5 straight on whatever I was modding.

Okay, so an engineer wants separate loot to increase their rating?

I just posted a thread about this, because this is something I have never understood. I have sold a lot of left over commodities and Cart data to Engineers since 2.1 dropped and I am still not clear as to WHAT doing that achieves. The game doesn't give you any feedback when you sell this stuff to them. It just pays you like any other station, so I am still totally confused by what the point of doing this even is.

The only thing I can think of is that it takes some HUGE amount to trigger some kind of message or whatever that even after months of doing this, I have yet to reach.

Some do and it can be painful to obtain them.

They generally ask for rare items over 200LY away and you get 5 or something each time.

They "ASK" you?

I have never been "asked" for anything by any of the Engineers I have worked with. Many of them are maxed out Grade 5 access and even those have never sent me a message or anything to indicate that they wanted me to get them something from somewhere in the Galaxy in exchange for some cool "previously undisclosed" upgrade.

When I first read people mentioning this whole thing, I thought how cool that was going to be, but as I said, to date I have never seen hide nor hare of anything directly related to this coming from my Engineers.

Totally confused by this mechanic, or more to the point, the complete lack thereof.
