Newcomer / Intro Suggestions for stuff to do?

I'm having trouble finding stuff to do. I haven't seen any military missions yet, the assassination missions are so vague with the details they'd probably take hours to complete, trading is difficult because trade routes are never correct, bounty hunting is ok but you'll have to leave cargo behind in some areas of space because there are no black markets around, discovery is not fun enough by itself....

All I'm seeing are barriers and no signposts. Any tips for finding fun stuff?

Yep the guide is good. How about military missions though? If I gain rep, do more/military missions appear on the bulletin board?

Yeah that's the principle. There is also a system at war where you could do blast stuff up for the empire

look for Sorbago on the galaxy map

ah yesterday the bulletin board had a federation mission for me, to deliver weapons, and the way it was phrased seemed to imply that was a BIG opportunity to prove myself with them, so you might be able to rank up rep even with no combat actions
But if you wanan blast enemies of the empire, Sorbago is your best bet
