Here are a few suggestions I've been thinking about that would be great if implemented during some future release of Elite Dangerous.
Smuggling:
The ability to use Super Cruise to travel between solar systems (limited by time and the ship's fuel capacity) allowing a smuggler to sneak through the "back door" of a solar system to deliver their illicit cargo.
Speed:
When Flight Assist is off, and a ship maintains a vector, a pilot should be able to "boost" engines and maintain the ship's maximum boost speed as long as they don't change direction or reverse thrust.
Weapons:
All weapons of a similar class and type should do equal damage. Where energy weapons are better against shields, and kinetic weapons are better against a ship's hull. Using Class 2 Beam Weapons, as an example.

Justification: Fixed Weapons are lighter and generate less heat, due to the lack of tracking circuitry, servos, and articulating gun mounts. Suggested changes to beam performance could be as follows:

Suggested Configuration: Mass Power Damage Per Second Distributor Draw Thermal Load Armor Piercing

A pilot utilizing fixed Beam weapons, if they are able to keep their sites on target, would benefit from increased maneuverability due to their ship's lighter fixed weapons, and benefit from longer sustained rate of fire due to the fixed beam weapons lower power draw and thermal load. Conversely, pilots utilizing Gimbled or Turreted weapons would benefit from their beam weapons increased DPS. However, their decreased rate of fire due to their weapons increased power and thermal loads would balance out their weapons auto tracking.
