I think the surface content has gotten stale very fast and not much is being done to address this issue. these are my suggestions
1- Have npcs in SRVs defends bases. I hope this happens someday. Fighting in srv seems fun but unfortunately can only be done against other players.
2 - Have ships actually defend bases? (they said they do now but like hmm, it's not happened to me yet. well.... once i was at maybe 20km distance from an outpost and this ship dropped to where i was and started scanning me but they were also mostly harmless and i killed them in like 20 secs and that was that so far) when i approach a base with a ship and start shooting at it, there should be at least one ship dropping down to defend it (or better yet taking off if that could be an option some time) number of ships and their skill would be linked to the security level
3- Have turrets that can't be killed from a safe distance (meaning the distance at which they shoot at you has to be increased by at least 2km). This is pretty much the worst of all. You can drop down with your ship and destroy everything without being shot at once (which might not be as much an issue if ships actually came to defend the base). I think it should be a lot harder to attack a base with a ship but i think it could be cool if say when you have to destroy a generator, you COULD do it with your ship still but killing the turrets because of their increased range wouldn't be much a viable option and maybe you'd need to just do fast fly bys and destroy the generator quick and get out.
4- Have missions that are linked to every single POI type. First of all do missions where you have to rescue pods still exist? Cause i haven't seen them in 1.6 yet. I liked those missions. I like the idea of being a rescuer. But for example mining operations POI. There should be missions tasking you to shut them down, missions tasking you with finding a destroyed srv to either retrieve the cargo they dropped or destroy it (vital information that cant' get in the hands of anyone) same for crashed ships. Missions tasking you with retrieving/stealing data, like that new POI that looks like some crashed pod that you can scan for information package. I mean there's already missions for those in outposts but there should also be some for he POI. And frankly it could be good if all missions related POI were location specific. Like thy could tell you its in a 20km radius from x outpost and then you actually have to find it.
These are my suggestions right offhand, at least when it comes to improving the content already there. Maybe more later.
