Suicidal passenger

So I botched a taxi mission due to not paying attention. Passenger got upset at being scanned and gave me 30 minutes to find somewhere to drop her off. My fault for detouring to a different tourist spot and getting distracted by taking screenshots in normal space so I didn't notice another ship coming; can't blame the paying customer for driver error.

Only thing is, my stock Anaconda has a paltry 39LY jump range (really need to visit that exploration Engineer at some point), and there's nothing within a 30-minute range where I could drop off the passenger.

So the passenger decided to bail out after the 30-minute timer elapsed. Right when I was scooping fuel from a star.

What a way to get a suntan.

I had something similar, yet slightly different yesterday.

Same as you, I wasn't paying attention, got scanned, passenger got angry. Then "Incoming mission critical message" - the screen flashed as said mission failed. Transaction tab on the left panel says mission failed too.

So, I just "DISCARD" mission. What is the point keeping it there?

I thought nothing more of it till I reached the station, and went to passenger lounge to see if I could pick up more passengers. I was mildly surprised I had ZERO available missions to take. So I just clicked on a random one, and the PICK CABIN was unselectable. But the graphic of the cabins looked odd... some of them had "x" through it.

So I went to restocking and "re-stocked". The viola!~! Passenger missions available to be selected again!

That meant the unhappy passengers I had in the previous mission bailed WITH MY CABINS! Dammit! Not only did I not get paid, they ripped me off!

Bizarre. Are we supposed to think that cabins are like escape pods, then? Do they have life support and thrusters? At least that would make some sense of why passengers would choose to bail out. But it still raises more questions than it answers.

All passenger cabins come with a free escape pod attached. When a passenger bails he nicks the pod not the cabin. When you do a restock the missing pod is replaced.

Passengers are strange folk. For some inexplicable reason they won't use a cabin if there's no escape pod attached. Can't imagine why.

Fair enough. But it would still likely be suicidal to leave the ship in an escape pod, unless the pod has an FSD, which seems unlikely. It would just make so much more sense if they stayed in your cabins till you reached a port, no matter how long that might take. It's like jumping out of a moving train because a 30 minute delay has been announced, and hoping you survive.

Passenger decide that i don care about him when i reject getting domestic appliance for him and promptly eject while i was fuel scooping in the middle of no where

I believe that you must take highly specialized test before you can apply for a "passenger" role. You must show traits as high and totally unreasonable demands, weird requests with a solid flavor of paranoia. Extra points for criminal record. Looks like all "passengers" are recruited among those rich spoiled kids that get platinum covered Lamborghini for their 16th b-day and say their parents don't love them, don't care for them since they wanted gray leather seat belt while platinum version have black 5-point system only...

Damn, my blood pressure reached dangerous levels from just reading above stories. Luckily I stick to cargo transport. Even hauling biowaste is more pleasing than passenger missions...

on the other end of this i would love to be able to kick them out. you get someone wanted because you paid little attention. or they start getting y i would to be able to turn them in in the wanted case or say my ship and pop an airlock or something... im not crazy you are crazy.

The previous two games Frontier and First Encounters required Life Support to be installed when hauling Slaves, otherwise your cargo would turn into Fertiliser (which was a darkly humorous touch to the game).

I know I'd be tempted to switch off the life support to the passenger cabins, except this game doesn't have that feature. I wonder if the devs could be persuaded to re-introduce it...
