Suicidal Prospector Limpets

What is it with the prospector limpets, they seem to fly straight into the ship.

It doesn't matter how I launch them, it seems they have a death wish.

Is it just me?

No it's not just you. It's the combination of you, your specific ship, your speed and maybe a bit of a bug.

What happens is that if you fire a prospector while going over 50 m/s, it gets thrown out of the cargo hatch but before it can fire its engine and shoot forward, your cargo hatch door will give it a slap. :D
There are two ways to prevent this. Either fire it while stationary or going very slow, or you can pitch up and fire the bottom vertical thrusters the moment it gets deployed to move your ship out of the way.

Some ship have cargo hatches in very awkward places so they are more susceptible to this than others.

Limpets being dumb as rocks and destroying themselves has been an issue since day 1, really.

Honestly, the limpets (especially collectors) got MUCH better at navigating around asteroids. I think that on my last mining trip I only lost two or three to collisions.

Yep, they are dumb. I try to thrust upwards while firing them, but still at least 30% of the prospectors hit my ship.

Seems like their collector brothers got gud, but the prospectors are still noobs.

For conda: if you fly forward and strafe to side (lateral), then prospector can be fired also when boosting. But I think there is something wrong with them, may be worth open bug report if not done already by someone.

Yes, they usually only work reliably on my Python if I'm going very slow or standing still. Luckily I don't need them any more to identifiy core-roids and just use them to mark the fissures after I've already found one.
