Suicide SRV = keep your SRV?

I got stuck in my SRV and hit self-destruct, as I had three more SRVs on board so no problem. I get transported back to my ship (still on the surface, yay!). and notice I still have four SRVs. Is this 'working as intended', a rare bug or something already well known?

I too recently got stuck in the crashed remains of an anaconda.....completely stuck! No choice but to hit self destruct and go to the nearest station to purchase a new one. I don't remember a new SRV appearing in my hold.
I always carry two now. \o/

Ive made this argument before, the 4 bay SRV module is totally TOTALLY pointless because it adds so much mass, and you can't lose the SRVs anyway...

It made sense to have four SRVs in your ship within the context of the original plan for Multicrew. Oh well...

Aye was thinking that as i wrote it, if MC actually let you deploy SRVs with friends it would suddenly have a place, now its still pointless lol.

always bin that way , you just can't use the broken one again until you repair at a station

I'd see if you can use all 4 SRV's OP, including the trashed one
If you can launch all of them, a bug report would be welcome I thiink.

Ah, if you cant use them thats fine by me. Doesnt show it though, but no big deal.

If it's not redded out, I think you can select each individual vehicle and check its health without deploying.

Heck, I'll land and test, havent repaired/docked yet.

edit: deploy doesnt work on the two self-destructed SRVs. :)

I've always thought it's a bit odd the way an SRV costs (IIRC) ~Cr5,000 and yet if you self-destruct one it only costs around ~Cr1,000 to replace it.

Also, regarding SRV-related grievances, why is it that the AspX (inarguably the top-tier exploration ship in the game) has a heap of #3 bays which means it's awkward to fit an optimally-sized SRV bay?
I'd much rather that the AspX had one of the #3 bays become a #2 and the other one become a #4.
I get that it's all about in-game "balance" and "compromise" but it's kinda hard to believe that a company producing an exploration ship wouldn't design it so it was fully compatible with available exploration modules.

I thinks you pay for the specific bay as well initially.

I only use the small sized SRV bays for the reduced mass. How many SRV's are the larger bays meant to hold, as I can only ever fit one in? Or is it down to module size?

Not sure about that.

You buy the SRV bay and then the Cr5,000 is for the actual SRV, itself.

I suppose it might be argued that the SRV comes packaged in some kind of "deployment frame" which isn't replaced with the SRV but I don't think there's anything in the game which supports that.

Well, think of all the repairs done whenever you dock a Scarab. That could explain the inflated price over a single SRV replacement.

To me, the requirement to pick a Scarab after equipping an SRV bay implies that other SRVs have been planned from the beginning.
