Summer 2022 DLC

Now that we've got all six continents with a multitude of species accounted for, and most of the popular animals already in, the question arises what's next? I'm not impatient, heck I haven't even fit all the new animals in my zoos yet. But I'm always looking at what's next as well as enjoying what I have. With the addition of the Capybara there is no one animal that seems 100% chance of being included, even the new meta-wish lead, the leopard, doesn't seem to have the same community backing as the Capybara did.

Thoughts on what it could be:
Regional - Oceania still needs to have a focused revisit, as does Greater Asia. I would think now that South America will not get a regional revisit, sure it could happen but they could also fit in with biome packs

Biomes - I doubt a rainforest pack will be next, though it may come in the future. Wetlands was just too close of a theme to Rainforests IMO. Deserts and Grasslands may be a pick, as I think that something with Temperate or Taiga will come in the last 1-2 tooks for the year.

There's also the possibility of Avian or Marine packs. While these wouldn't be game changing they would be new additions for the roster.

Personally I'd prefer either a Avian pack or a revisit to Oceania. What are your thoughts?

I am luckily easy to please customer, since I still want alot of animals from all over the world, so whatever the theme is I will be happy.

I do wonder though, if it will be a scenery pack or animal pack. It will probably be a biome pack imo. A desert/scrubland animal pack would be great as it could include popular african desert animals as well as some species from Oceania.

I suspect it will be a scenery pack; that they're alternate pack types at this point. Of course, I'm definitely more on the animal side of things, so I'd be perfectly fine if everything was animal packs now. But I absolutely understand there would be a large number of players who would justifiably be unhappy with that.

A desert or grasslands pack could be nice to have. Adding something like Baboons, Maned Wolf, P. Horse and Emu, would bring several continents into play.

Ahh, so it's that time is it?

There are a few possibilities in my mind. If this isn't the last year of dlc support, I fully expect the next pack to be a scenery pack to balance out the animals only pack we just had. I think there are a couple themes that still make sense for scenery, those being:
  • Asia
  • Islands
  • Central America
Asia makes sense as it's the last continent that didn't receive a dedicated dlc (besides Antarctica), excluding SEA. Funnily enough, this could be a way to satisfy some of the unhappy campers that were initially upset about not getting building pieces in the SEA pack. Given that we already have a Chinese/Japanese theme fully integrated into the game, an Asia scenery dlc could come with some kind of Indonesian or Thai etc. building theme. This might be a bit awkward given that I expect almost all of the animals in said pack to be from North Asia (except a potential gibbon) but hey, that didn't stop them with the Africa pack!

Islands or Central America are some biome/regional packs that seem easy to make scenery for and while I would prefer something like Central America be an animals pack since it could help out with the Americas representation more that way, it does make sense to potentially do it as a scenery pack. Islands could have a New Zealand theme, Pacific Island theme. Frankly, both packs could have some kind of Caribbean theme.

If we get an animals pack I would take that as a sign that this is the final year of support. If it is going to be an animals pack I would anticipate it being some kind of biome pack, being:
  • Deserts
  • Grasslands
  • Mountains
  • Tropical forests (or just forests)
There's also the possibilities that we get some kind of "Drylands" or "Scrublands" pack to act as a counterbalance to the Wetlands pack. That might include grasslands or desert animals in the same pack or some other combo.

Lastly, as much as I am desperate for aviaries, I don't see it happening at this point anymore.

It is still difficult to predict because I am still not sure if we are really finished with regions. There is still the possibility that we get biome based animal packs and region based scenery packs. In case of biomes desert would be my bet but grassland could be a possibility, too. In case of regions India or Oceania seem possible choices to me.

That's a good point about animal packs. It is entirely feasible this may be the last year of content. Hopefully not and we get 2023 content as well though. But I think I agree, signs may point to the winding down period where all we'd be getting are animal packs. That would be 21 habitat animals vs. 15 if there's alternating pack types, which honestly, could be a big difference in checking off some highly requested species.

personally i think it will be some with the thematic of the Desert or something "arid" but i wish it will be a Central Asia with estructures from that part of asia

I still believe getting content through the whole year 2023 is possible and that there is a 50:50 chance. I do not know the financial profit of the last packs but why should Frontier stop support if DLCs still are profitable. And there is also potential to put down the financial and human input for DLC if the DLCs are only animal packs and are not connected with a major update next year. But of course it is all speculation and only time will tell us what happens next year.

I sure hope we get content through 2023. You're right, it's a 50/50 chance at this point. Me, I'd love to see another 3-4 years of that, but am realistic that almost certainly next year will be the last content. Fingers crossed though.

. I do not know the financial profit of the last packs but why should Frontier stop support if DLCs still are profitable.
Why? Thats easy question. It depends how profitable according to them sequel would be.
If Frontier will decide that PZ2 with birds and aquariums will make a lot of money then they will stop support to leave some animals (dlc) for sequel. In meantime Planet Zoo still would be making money like PlanCo currently does.

Atleast there is some hope for birds for me in current game, because current dlc system works in harmful way for sequel dlc content. Unless next 3 pack would feature less requested and kinda niche animals. Think about more animals like caiman and water buffalo.

I think the summer DLC will be either a scenery pack or something new entirely.

Then we get another animal pack in autumn, and back to scenery again in winter.

So the summer DLC will not be Drylands biome or Oceania, because those should be animal packs. Instead I think the summer pack will be something like Central America 5+1, or aviary. Then Drylands in autumn (to contrast with wetlands). And Northeast Asia in winter (Amur leopard, Przewalski horse).

I think it's very likely that we'll see a shift to more animals packs than scenery packs. I mean, how would you make a building theme based on a biome? Not to mention, for the first year after launch we got nothing but scenery packs, so maybe now it's time for animal pack supremacy. My bet's on either a Grasslands Animal Pack or a Desert Animal Pack for the summer.

I would go for an Oceania revisit
At this point that's where I personally want it to go, unless it is indeed an Avian themed pack. I think though deserts/grasslands/scrublands/savannahs -may be likely, maybe even all bundled under the name Drylands or Prairies, as has been suggested. If anything, it would serve to be an interesting counterpoint to Wetlands.

I think the DLC that will come out in the summer will be between the Desert's DLC or the Grasslands's DLC. These would be the animals that would be included in each pack

Desert
  • Somali wild donkey (CR) or Indian wild donkey (NT)
  • Addax (CR)
  • Sand cat (LC)
  • Brown hyena (NT)
  • African spurred tortoise (EN)
  • Guanaco (LC)
  • Scimitar oryx (EW) or Dama gazelle (CR)
  • Thorny devil (LC) [exhibition]

Grasslands
  • Black-footed ferret (EN)
  • Przewalski's horse (EN)
  • Roosevelt elk (LC)
  • Grévy's zebra (EN)
  • Saiga antelope (CR)
  • Maned Wolf (NT)
  • Blackbuck (LC)
  • Giant girdled lizard (VU) [exhibition]

Deserts to Grasslands Animal Pack
  1. Przewalski's Horse
  2. Maned Wolf
  3. African Crested Porcupine
  4. Emu
  5. Hamadryas Baboon
  6. Black-Footed Ferret
  7. Scimitar Horned Oryx
  8. Frilled Neck Lizard
Alternatively, Oceania Animal Pack:
  1. Tasmanian Devil (Tasmania, Australia)
  2. Emu (Australia)
  3. Common Wombat (Australia)
  4. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo (Papua New Guinea)
  5. North Island Brown Kiwi (New Zealand)
  6. Red-Necked Wallaby (Australia)
  7. Short-Beaked Echidna (Australia, Papua New Guinea)
  8. Tuatara (New Zealand)

If we were to get a Greater Asia or just Asia Animal Pack
  1. Amur Leopard
  2. Przewalski's Horse
  3. Lar Gibbon
  4. Wolverine
  5. Sichuan Takin
  6. Markhor
  7. Pallas's Cat
  8. Chinese Giant Salamander
And a Tropical Animal Pack, after the Wetlands Animal Pack could look like this
  1. Maned Wolf
  2. Red River Hog
  3. Three Toed or Two Toed Sloth
  4. Fossa
  5. South American Coati
  6. Black Howler Monkey
  7. Golden Lion Tamarin
  8. Panther Chameleon

I have to admit I'm worried about the chances for some tropical or rainforest animals now, mainly the Red River Hog. Unless Africa gets another specific pack I can't see them fitting in another pack, especially biome wise. At any rate even if we do get a tropical related pack at some point, it probably won't be anytime soon as it would be too similar to the wetlands. Then again, they did give us NA and Europe back to back.

I agree with you Dee, there are a lot that I want to see. All I can do is keep supporting PZ team's effort by purchasing DLC, until one day I get all i want.
