As an assistant, it sucks and I have no need of an assistant that slows me down.No it is an assistant not an autopilot.
That has been my thought all along. And. after 10 yrs of playing, it comes to me that I should just do not use it. Sage advice I'd say.As an assistant, it sucks and I have no need of an assistant that slows me down.
At that speed?1. SC Assist should get out of the orbital planes so that it does not slow down for every planet that comes close by on the way to target.
2. SC Assist should be 100% throtte, and then downshift to 75% automatically at of course the right moment.
To paraphrase a certain gone-then back-then gone-then back et cetera Elite player and content creator: <Unnamed other space game X> does a good job of "reducing the tedium of space flight to a bare minimum". In a space game. Where you fly space ships. Through space. After all those years that insane mega-grind of necessity of flying our own ships by ourselves is still not fixed!?!
Yeeep. Auto Launch -> SCA (SCO) -> Docking Request -> Services -> Commodities. And we are clicking those buttons dangerously! In a space game. Where you fly space ships. Through space.
And the other day I saw the suggestion we should have commoditiy markets automagically have access to the carrier store, so we don't have to load and unload anymore. Seriously. "I win" button for the win. Pun intended.Yeeep. Auto Launch -> SCA (SCO) -> Docking Request -> Services -> Commodities. And we are clicking those buttons dangerously!
In the corporate world this is considered a plusAs an assistant, it sucks
That's the point though right? As an assistant, it sucks and I have no need of an assistant that slows me down.
I made my point in the first post. I've played this game for years and I was around when there was no super cruise, no SCO drive, no auto takeoff or land, and I've been around to see all those things added....and I've made suggestions to add them or at least thumbs up those that did long ago. I'm a programmer, so I'm always looking for the next innovation. Just like I was hopeful we would get SCO, auto takeoff and land and other enhancements that came over the years. That's the point though right?
Your options are:
Fastest: Active, at-the-keyboard play
Slower: Supercruise Assist
Riskier: AFK Supercruise, and check in at just the right times.
Slowest: Not flying at all.
SCA and auto-dock are great for when I just want to be doing something else... because I lose more time not paying attention to when I've actually arrived than from SCA being a slower mode.
I disagree. It has it's uses. Competing with active at-the-keyboard flying shouldn't be one of them.My other point was that without the suggested enhancements Supercruise assist is not helpful and I NEVER use it. It could be better. Or we could just post pictures of giraffes and point fingers and laugh. But I digress.
Does this mean you think they should never have implemented SCO drives, auto land, auto takeoff etc in your opinion. Per the early game those were also "outside of the design intent". There are many other aspects of the game that have been modified over time. Personal carriers were never the original design intent. Special Engineered weapons etc. I take the "suggestions" tab to mean FDev is open to new idea's. If they didn't want suggestions that were "outside of the design intent", then they would just remove the suggestions tab.[ Innovation is fine, but not when it goes outside design intent and makes something do something it shouldn't.]
That sounds like Auto dock not Auto land which is where your ship dithers around for ages looking for a place where access on foot or SRV is as hard as possible.Does this mean you think they should never have implemented SCO drives, auto land, auto takeoff etc in your opinion. Rather than see Giraffe posts poking fun at new ideas, It would be beneficial if comments would explain how the idea is bad as in:
-providing auto land takes away the risk of landing too hard, missing the pad, and getting a loitering fine. You could argue that makes the game too easy.
Not sure it has made NPC interdictions that much easier to avoid, it has definitely not made long cruises easier quicker yes, more fun arguably. I visited Hutton Orbital successfully lots of times before SCO or carriers so 300kls was definitely possible.-providing SCO drives takes away the ability of NPC's to interdict a player and makes is a lot easier to go 300kls to a remote station. Something we could never do in the early days.
It might prevent getting stuck but my collision today proved that it can still hit other ships, or be hit by them.-providing auto takeoff prevents the risk of crashing into other ships or getting stuck in the mail slot and getting blown up, making the game again too easy.
You talking about the SCA zero throttle after a jump option, that doesn't prevent it happening if you are AFK or dozed off just prolongs the wait as you are still moving straight for the sun.One could argue that having intelligent super cruise would again make the game too easy or make it too easy to go AFK while playing, but so did auto hyperdrive shutdown which now prevents new players from getting caught in the stars gravitational field a makes the days of having to reenter frame shift while overheating a thing of the past unless you don't install the super cruise assist.
