Engineers Super Penetrator Dumbfire Missiles

Hi everybody

I noticed that the dumbfires missile have 100 % both min and max breach chance, meaning that it should always pass the hull and damage the internal modules with the listed breach damage.

What i do not understand at this point is the purpose of the super penetrator experimental modification; it says that "Experimental munitions capable of penetrating hull to damage internal modules.", but this feature should be granted by the 100% breach chance.

Any clue? :D

Thanks in advance for any answer!

I see. But if so, why is it listed breach chance 100% both min and max for dumbfire missiles, while it's 0% for seeker missiles? if you look at the image under the spoiler tag on my first post, you can see the screenshot of outfitting...

AFAIK explosive damage can't damage internal modules innately (High Yield Shell can because it's been coded to). When the missile impacts the hull, it explodes instantly, damaging the hull and any nearby external module. As missiles are the only hardpoint in the game with an area of effect, allowing them to deal breach damage as well (let alone AoE breach) would be OP. The Penetrator mod allows the missile to breach, damaging an internal module, but it no longer explodes externally, removing the splash effect on external modules. Whether or not it deals AoE breach I don't know, though I'd suggest it doesn't considering how much ppl raved about HYS, and how heavily nerfed it was as a result of it's AOE breach ability.

I imagine the reason the hardpoint lists breach chance at 100% is either for clarity sake for when CMDRs add Penetrator munitions (we'd have to do testing if it didn't list a breach chance), or it's outdated and has yet to be removed. Either way, stock missiles don't breach, regardless of what the tooltip says. Penetrator mod allows the missile to breach, and it does it 100% of the time.

Edit: Seeker missiles can't be modded with Penetrator. So there's your answer, the tooltip is there for when/if you mod it with Penetrator.

Yes, as others have said, seekers can never penetrate hull hence their breach chance is set at 0% as irrelevant.

Dumbfires can penetrate to internals if modded with super penetrator hence they are at 100% to ensure that breach always occurs if the special is present.

However, as Bob has correctly linked above, the special is currently completely bugged and as in my video in that thread appears reliably to cause no damage whatever to modules ... neither internal, nor external.

Frontier have replied in the bug thread to say that it is being investigated.

Did you look into the rails at all, as mentioned above?

Players I've spoken to have reported superpen rails working fine.
