Supercruise Assist and the FSS?

I thought the text was pretty clear, but to highlight a point

You will need to first identify a bodies in order to target them.
SCA is intended to allow orbiting a body to use DSS only, not for the initial FSS.

Agree, well said. I just re-read the announcement and nowhere, not once was the FSS mentioned. Just wish some would read before they panic and post.

Of course, good point. Maybe it just throttles down to zero? Proper orbit doesn't seem logical in SC and would be problematic for planets with rings.

If your ship throttles down to zero, it won't move or orbit the body. For ringed bodies, I guess SCA will navigate your ship to orbit outside of ring.

Edit: I also assume the SCA don't require any power like the redundant Adv Discover Scanner.

I am on the fence if this is a good thing for the game or not, can see the benefit for beginners, but also seems a bit too 'easy mode' for my tastes.

Any rate, I have one burning question for this module .. will it allow us to use the FSS while in motion instead of when just throttled down?

Please! :)

I read it and my brain protested... But having no autopilots in an age like this is actually strange.

I guess we might be just turning into these guys:

Let's agree not to, though...

I still don't know why so many are upset with the proposed SCA, it isn't being made mandatory to use, FD aren't holding a gun to your head and saying you must use it. Like the old Docking Computer, some will use it, others won't. And again like the DC, there will be some who think it is some sign of bravado not to use it and will look down from their lofty egos at anyone who does.

Haha! I'm all for having the module in the game regardless if I use it or not. Options are good. Not going to get into that argument ;)

But certainly would be better if I could finish mapping a system with the FSS while traveling to an interesting body to surface map. Seems Supercruise Assist would be good fit for that, if its at all possible to do. Hoping it can be confirmed or denied by the Frontier folk.

Cheers, AD

I doubt the FSS will work with this (though it could.. I'm not sure why that'd be helpful since there's no way to know which world you're headed to initially).

It's been brought up before though; the far future, with jump drives and everything is manual. Seems.. odd. So I welcome this QoL improvement. Given my distance from the nearest station... it might be a while before it matters though :p

Regarding OP, I doubt it and it probably would not be all that effective. When zooming in, the relative motion of your ship can already make it difficult to stay on a body that is close to perpendicular from your ships axis and that is when throttled down. I assume the task would become nearly impossible for bodies not directly in front or behind you at higher speeds.

Just a guess, but as there's lack of any more info, there's likely nothing more to add.
Everything else is speculation and based on the last 4.5 years I would predict that by "go into orbit of the selected planet" will mean that it will fly you to the planet, slow down and zero throttle when at the blue line...and...you'll still need to be at zero to use FSS and/or DSS.

We effectively already have an auto throttle, this is just an auto thottle plus, so it might not make a huge difference. It may also use a, say, 10 second rule in which case I probably won't bother with it. Even of it uses the 6 second rule it's still slower than using gravity to slow down.

im kinda on the fence about this too, because for the longest time frontier didnt want any form of auto-pilot in the game and now they have this module that lets you basicaly set an auto pilot in a system, you still have to manualy navigate hyperspace but it seems like someone could easily start botting with the supercruise assist
There already are bots which are way more capable than that, so it's not a valid issue.
