I think there should be an option to go to the system view of your target system, and manually select which star you jump to in the system. of course, if you dont have the system data you have to default to the primary and deal with the trek. i just dont see an economic reason for the primary star in a system like LHS 3447 to be ~105k Ls away from any of the stations...

There isn't an economic reason for it. As has been noted in numerous threads on this subject, the hyperdrive locks in on the largest mass in the system, and uses that mass to pull the ship out of hyperspace.

Ladies and Gentlemen, <snip> I understand they don't want it to be instant, however I immensely dislike spending so much time just to slow down to my target location. The sweet spot seems to be the fastest way to land without doing a loop of shame, however I still believe it takes too long.

I just think that sitting there decelerating for 60+ seconds once you are below 1c/s adds nothing to the game. <snip>

Hi OP,

I "snipped" in your quote above to point out the salient points that I am addressing. I read on the forums somewhere (and have since confirmed through actual gameplay) that I only experience the SC issues with acceleration / deceleration you described when traveling in the orbital plane.

If you want to travel faster and decelerate in less time, this is what I've found to (mostly) work for me:

  1. Upon arrival in system, choose your travel target (or just point away from the star)
  2. If targeting a destination, aim for traveling to it at an angle (i.e. don't just aim straight for your target, but aim your travel vector above or below it), bringing you above or below the orbital plane.
  3. Keep an eye on your "ETA" timer, and start to slowly angle your ship up as you get closer or as you notice it leaving your field of view faster, keeping in mind your speed.....I got 100% SC throttle until I hit the "0.07 seconds" to target mark, then I throttle down to 75%.
  4. As you get closer (especially to a station) keep the "blue rings" that indicate the various gravity well gradients in mind. I usually adjust my travel vector to minimize going through those directly but at the same time keeping my target within view yet not quite "straight on".
  5. Once I start getting within about 10 ls or so is when I set my vector to be "straight on" to allow the normal deceleration process.

Following the above procedures I've noticed that I spend less time decelerating that I did previously before being reminded that space is 3D and we are not limited to just flying within the orbital plane.

I hope this helps!

Mostly I'd like to see deceleration increased. Also the destination lock speed and distance to be greatly increased. Acceleration speed and generally getting around is fine more me but stopping is very tedious, especially if your doing it a lot at USSs.

I just think that sitting there decelerating for 60+ seconds once you are below 1c/s adds nothing to the game. It seems that it would inhibit friends meeting up especially to help out once under attack.

As long as it doesn't make it harder to interdict NPCs or Players, I'm all for a less time consuming super cruise.

There should be some solution to the distances where it takes a loong time to travel to a destination in SC. An overall increase in speed is not the right solution, though.
