Supercruise to another star system - possible?

I've read in a newsletter somewhere that the maximum speed is 2000 c, and that it is possible to manually fly between systems because everything is 1:1 scale.

Doing some quick math, I found out that at 2000c, you can cross 8 ly in a reasonable amount of time (1.5 days). I thought this was a wonderful way to travel outside of the current game border.

I went to test it out on a run between Aulis and I bootis, a mere 3.53 light years. I made it 1 million light seconds from Aulis, when I did some math. If I didnt mess up, I traveled 11 light days, which should've shortened the distance from 3.53 ly to 3.49 ly but the lock marker did not change -- it stayed at 3.53. My speed was 1562 c at that time, and still climbing (though slowly), so I think the 2000c claim is accruate.

Unfortunately my progress was destroyed when, amusingly, I was interdicted by a security force that scanned me for contraband.... 11 light days outside the solar system. My mistake was that when I tried to go into supercruise again, I had the iBootis locked so I hyperspace jumped, which ruined all my progress (though a more practical person would've said I completed my goal of reaching I bootis).

However, given that the tick marker didn't change from 3.53 to 3.50 ly, I am inclined to say this method of travel isn't possible? Has anyone tried?

I believe it has been tried, and I believe that the distance it gives you to other systems will never update, also I believe that the other system will not 'load in' when you get to where it should be, but this is third-hand information. Maybe you could go to where it should be, reload the client and it would load the system in? I dunno.

I would guess that getting that to work properly wouldn't be a priority, but I hope it gets fixed at some point.

As of this beta, you'd be running out of fuel before you'd get anywhere.

Previously, it was possible, but while you could get to the other system the game would act as if you where not there (i.e stations would not be there and so on).

In any cases, the devs did mention that while possible, the mechanics of fuel consumption would prevent it so they did not / do not / will not put any resources in programing this.

Well there are 2 systems in this beta which are very close to each other. Only 0.33ly.isn't asellus primus B at 0.14ly from the main star?

That's 26 draconis and lft 1341 (iirc) I was wondering whether I should try it or not myself... But anyone could at least try, and the distress beacon may still work even 0.33ly away

I seem to recall another explanation - that a new system is a new instance and sc doesn't load a new instance while a hyperspace jump does.
