Superpower Reputation - large % drop

Can anyone help.

I logged into my account today, and viewed the status panel - it said my reputation with the Federation was 92%. I bought some lithium, and have so far made a few jumps and fuel scoops (nothing else at all). I just viewed the status panel again and my reputation is now 80% ?

I haven't played the game for maybe a week, but cant see why the reputation would drop so quickly - is this normal. I've been playing this game since alpha, and never could get my head around this part of it.

Cheers,

Unless you regularly do missions for one of the powers with whom you are aligned then your reputation will fade away and initially quite rapidly. If you are above 75% then it will slow down as it reaches 75% and stop falling at this 75% value. I don't know what happens if you are below this value as I've not been there for a long time.

In order to raise your reputation you must carry out missions that have a high reputation increase for that particular power. Complete missions that have a low reputation increase and it will not be enough to stop your reputation from falling, it will merely slow it down. You can also trade at stations aligned to the super power but you will need to make a good profit for this to raise your reputation. I don't know the required value for this.

I think. Other players will correct me where I am wrong.

I noticed this too.

Yesterday I was allied with the Federation, today I'm at 89% friendly. That seems like quite a big drop for 16 hours.

Hi Mark,

thanks for the reply, helps make some sense of it.
I'm surprised it drops quite as quickly as it does, but what the heck

Cheers

I regularly drop to the 75% level since I don't play every day and sometime real life means that I don't get to play for several weeks. Frankly I just ignore the power reputation thing and just play.

As do I. Far as I can tell unless you are unemployed and can afford to sit round in underpants eating junk food and playing this for 16 hours a day the rep thing just withers away.

I have maybe an hour a night in game.

An hour a day but not eery day is about all I manage, too many other things to be doing.

How much superpower reputation you get highly depends on what you are doing.
Some missions have high reputation rewards others only small.
Handing in superpower bounties increases the reputation with a superpower very quickly.
Handing in exploration data increases the reputation fast.

Not that it matters that much. The superpower reputation is primarily helpful to get a good reputation with factions aligned to that superpower. And in that case you would do high reputation activities anyway.
After that having allied status with that faction will give you nicer missions and the of the superpower reputation is less important.

The fastest way to get superpower rep back up is turning in bounties for them. I can't tell you how much you need. If I make 2 turn ins of 1 million each I can get them from 75% to 100%. However, 2 million all at once won't do it.

It generally only takes a 300k turn in to get back to 100% from around 90%.

Also selling lots of goods via trading seems to be the second best method. I never had problems keeping/ restoring empire to 100% when I used to lots of trade runs in my python/anaconda/cutter.

For me, missions were always the slowest way to maintain that rep. That's why I bounty hunt to get them to 100% and then do missions. Then when I do missions and get max rep gains with the superpower aligned factions.

Indeed so, but when you do not do combat, like me, then bounty missions is not something that you can do. Hence the trade and missions.

Super power reputation decline is one of my greatest upsets with this game. If I am lucky, I get to play once a week and it was really getting to me, just how fast it drops. Most of the time, I find myself at the maximum dropping range, of 75% friendly, when logging in. It took me a while to realise, that mission running to bring it back up, was not the most affective way to go about it. I have done 10 missions and only gone up a couple of points; logged out for a couple of hours and found myself, back to square one. These days; especially if I am intending to rep up with a minor faction; I just do a few bounties and hand them into Empire and up it rapidly goes. Otherwise, if I am just generally pottering about, I forget it and just leave it as it is; because it is not going any lower than 75%.

Just another example of how the game is too focused on pew pew and how some of the 'mechanics' such as Major faction reputation decline have nothing to do with the way some people play. Just an automatic, ill thought out, disappointment for many.

Minor rant over.

Good thing is, minor faction reputation does not decline.
