Hopefully an oversight...
The main menu, pause menu and sys map loading widget used to scale with FOV and render with a smaller size (or higher effective resolution) when it was higher, now they all look to be the same size whatever your FOV and be roughly the size they would have appeared with a low FOV value before. It's not good - I exited straight out of the main menu, checked and reloaded three times after the upgrade before I even started the game because I thought my manually edited config file for a larger FOV than the top of the slider had gotten b0rked.
