Support the Billionaires! They make the game more realistic and a better sim!

We should all support the existence of in-game billionaires: Those who by some twist of fate or quirk of birth, have found themselves with wealth they neither earned nor deserved.

Because is this not the true nature of the Elite galaxy? To find yourself under the yoke of a cruel system, striving against those who were born into wealth? The Senators Patreus and Torval have wealth that far outstrips even these bilionaires, such that they can afford multiple capital ships, and yet players have not argued they should not exist. Various system authorities have wealth that surely outstrips any individual player, even now.

It's certainly realistic - how many of our current wealthy are wealthy solely by virtue of being born into it or having it left to them by a deceased relative? Do we not have lottery winners even now, whether by a real lottery or an accident of birth?

These billionaires can make the galaxy a better, more interesting place, and are an unequivocal force of good for the game for the following reasons:
- They introduce player-based "powerbrokers" who can use their wealth to shift situations, but in a way that isn't limited to the hard-ass no-life folks that would ever get this money normally. This introduces all sorts of interesting drama and dynamics!
- They are more likely to be less responsible with their wealth, since they didn't earn it. They might do and agree to all sorts of crazy things! Perhaps they'll offer to pilot an orca through an asteroid field with a hold full of platinum, in a massive game of hide and seek, and the first player to find them and "tag" them with a laser beam gets a hold full of plat dumped for their efforts! This actually has great potential to make the game more fun for a lot of players!
- They can play the role of player villains - become the evil that others must vanquish. Earn reputations for helping out the most despicable groups, and equipping others to dominate combat zones. If I know anything of the player base, they'd relish the opportunity to fight such a well-endowed and easy to hate opponent! Do people not get excited when a capital ship jumps into a combat zone, because it's an opponent worth beating? It's the same thing writ large.
- Irresponsible playboys, and all that entails!
- Creating missions for other players to complete and rewarding them appropriately!
- It's only temporary. The more they do, the less they'll have, and they won't be billionaires forever!
- It's limited. No matter what they do, they'll only be able to pilot one ship at a time.

As such, I'd like to make a proposal.

We need more in game billionaires of the type who rather explicitly do not deserve their wealth - the deserving tend to be boring, frugal, and too greedy to ever really make things more fun for other players. But the undeserved billionaire? That's a wildcard with the potential for incredible fun!

So I say we should make this a regular thing. Every month, Frontier should send three messages to three different players. One, a circumstance of birth gives them several billion (new players only). Another, a distant and now deceased relative has given them the same. And finally, they win the Bank of Zaonce official lottery. Because the BoZ cares about it's customers.

The players, of course, can refuse, but a few of them won't and will instead choose to be powerful, influential, hilariously undeserving and simultaneously incredibly fun forces for interestingness in the galaxy.

Who's with me?

Yey! - but one condition of accepting the credits is you MUST always play in open and carry at least 5 tons of platinum at all times! :D

That's what we needed another thread about the billionaires to go with the other 20 or so. Maybe we need a new section for the forums....."Dangerous Billionaires"

Nah, make it 20 tons of narcotics - what billionaire doesn't want to be caught riding dirty?

Yeah but those other threads are just full of whiners and complaints and the butthurt who can't stand the idea that someone somewhere might have something they don't "deserve". This is a thread about embracing the awesome opportunities this brings!

They should totally set up a forum if they do though, I agree. But only billionaires (earned or not) should be allowed to post there.

Additional benefits:
- Wealthy targets for pirates and bounty hunters!
- An endless stream of entertaining forum rageposts

Can't believe people are still making excuses for FD for a bad decision.

But then... IMAGINATION!!?!!...

Who'se making excuses for a bad decision? I am making an argument for future decisions of the same sort, but intentional! It's not my fault you're not only opposed to fun but projecting your own negative thoughts on to others.

I must admit, I was a little peeved at the whole situation. Not because the players got the money, but because of future implications with people finding other exploits and how FD deal with it.
Still this thread has made it a little easier to swallow and thrown a good attitude on it, so rep for you OP, thank-you Cmdr!

Yeah. Fanboyism at its best. I don't play open mode anymore, because of all the cheating. I even consider to stop playing the game at all. My friend already did. Hopefully Star Citizen knows how to deal with exploitation.

I'm already trying to spread what I won. Check out Lave every once in a while. You may spot me flying my Anaconda with a huge bounty on my head. Bring friends and try to collect my bounty if you think you can!

I'm don't mind or care if a lucky few managed to step in something and come up smelling of roses.

I'm not going to say they MUST do anything, but (when WINGS arrive) just suppose one or two of them bought capitol ships and lead an Armada of the rest of us into a system to force a change of leadership...

... That would test the E;D promise that we can affect the galaxy by our actions.

Agree with OP 100%. This could be a great way to kickstart increased Player influence on big events in the Galaxy*. Some great ideas there. Its also great to see a few of these billionaires coming out with proactive ideas on what to do with the dosh themselves.

I think the whiners honestly don't really care at all about interesting stuff like Player-driven emergent stories and gameplay; because they are mostly just obsessed with "winning", "optimising" and imaginary "leaderboards" that exist only in their minds.

*I half suspect FD did this deliberately to shake things up...

Damn I'm right next to lave but my Clipper isn't fitted for Anaconda combat nor can I afford to pay the bill if you go through me D:

If I had 5.1GCR... I would dump 500T of platinum at a time in Open at regular intervals, advertised in advance. Could do that 500x and still have 100MCR left over.

Hey Chukk, any chance you could sling some my way? Could do with a few bob to trick out my Cobra with some decent gear and still buy it back :p
