Surely exploring is a one off thing?

I'm nearly elite in exploration. I've visited about 0.0015% of the Galaxy. I've only seen a couple of terraformable rockly worlds, and I've never had a pair of ELWs in the same system. Lots of outliers still to be found :)

I think you need to add a few more zero's ;) that's more like what we've all explored added together :D

Marmite. It's a rare element that can be mined from the pristine haemorrhoids of Uranus.
Personally, I find that so offensive to my political correct sensibilities I think you should just be banned from these forums.:mad:
[]
I am also offended because it reminds me why playing ED for long hours on sitting on my chair can be so uncomfortable.
You should me made to eat Marmite every meal for the rest of your days.:mad:

Otherwise, I am :D my PHs off as your puerile and childish comment seems to stimulate my pristine politically very incorrect sensibilities.:p

The AFMU won't do anything for breached/weakened canopies, it's modules only (and some, like the Powerplant, can't be repaired).

You could compromise and take a 6D fuel scoop to save weight; that's what I have and it scoops so quickly I can't see a huge benefit to getting a better one; better to save a few kilos.
I've returned to Jameson to kit out my new Asp and it seems that fuel scoops have zero mass! So I might as well go for the 6A - edshipyard says the 6A fills the tank in 36 seconds compared to 1m3s for the 6D. 25 million credits, though...

Didn't bother with the repair thing, sounds pointless for my purposes.

Since I've saved a lot of weight I put a couple of extra fuel tanks in there to take the capacity up to 48T. It still does 31.48LY fully loaded, which is about 5 more than the first time I explored, when I had weapons.

Time to head out into the void again!

Its really hard to understand until you find somthing really special and you are the first to find it. I really wish i could find the paper where i wrote down the system i found this, But in a system, i found two water base life planets, orbiting eachother.

Water based life planets are not the most rare. Infact eathlike and amonia based life is quite a bit rare. But this was amazing, TWO water based life planets. in the same system. ORBITING EACH OTHER. It ngets into your head. and wonder what other neat stuff you can find. Im out right now actualy. A mere 3oo LY out, exsploring things no one else has seen. You can literaly go anywhere, And discover something. Its really cool.

And then there are stuff like this, Its not that rare. But it makes for a cool Picture. and still makes you feel special. ( and yes i discovereed this system and took this picture.

Fuel scoops weigh nothing although lower power drain may allow for a lower weight power plant.

Once you strip an Asp of weapons and the rest of the useless internals you don't need, there's enough power to run three 6A fuel scoops.

I took a 6B because I couldn't afford a 6A. I should have waited and bought the better one. After 2,700 stars (and still counting) it would have saved me a lot of time.

I always find myself getting more and more anxious the more systems I have scanned. I keep feeling this large pile of vulnerable money building up inside my ship. The more I do, the more want to: 1) Jump back to cash in my loot. ... and... 2) Scurry past the rats who seek to interdict my return.

Considering going off an exploring whilst I wait for new content and PP to be fixed. I've done trading and bounty hunting so mining or exploring are next.

My question is though surely once you have gone out exploring once and come back there's no point in doing it again? you've made money and scanned lots of things you cannot scan again? Elite in it's current state has no random spawns such as nebula, black holes, or anything apart from signal sources and those don't interest an explorer surely? why would I explore the same things again! maybe FD need to add things that randomly spawn that are worth exploring like ancient thargoids things or space anomalies... maybe you explorer vets can advise me?

It's cool the first couple times you go out and explore. And yes sometimes you find something worth taking a screen shot of. But then you begin to get that "been there done that" feeling or "seen one seen them all". The novelty of having your avatar name pasted on some object that probably few if anyone else will ever see wears off too quite quickly.

Yes, exploration is the one thing about this game that separates it from the rest of such games. Yet, it has been basically ignored by FD. That will probably change at some point if you are willing to wait around for it.

Well after reading this thread I have just refitted for exploring and will be heading out with my next log on.

Not sure of a destination yet. Probably second star to the left and straight on till morning, wouldn't want to run down Peter Pan by accident.

I've posted a number of ideas which i'd love to see implemented in game later for explorers. i agree that as it stands right now, exploration is just jump, honk, scan.. perhaps more scan if something else interesting then rinse repeat.. endlessly .. system after system and it takes a lot of patience.. decent music (or vids on youtube) and .. time.. lots of time. I'm 2 months out exploring now, have spoken to one or two pilots in all the time but never seen a single ship since.

I would love to see anomalies and mysteries in space, things you can really interact with and solve.. i would love for random spectacles to occur such as the death of a star or birth of one.. black hole destroying nearby entities etc.. things to see and marvel at.. and later planetary landings etc.. but right now, exploration is mundane, but very lovely all at the same time.

Exploration however has led to me watching many, many astronomy vids on youtube etc.. i've always been interested in space, the galaxy and the universe, and even some alternative views on how the universe was created and what lies BEYOND the universe, perhaps even at another level entirely a universe within a universe kind of stuff.. but this game has given the best i've seen for looking at the galaxy so far, and doubt it will be beaten for its content, so am looking forward to future patches now to see what else they can add to spruce up exploration to give it the return factor once you reach elite.

Well I've been trying really hard to enjoy "civilized" space, but its an upward march for me.

Tried bounty hunting with FDL and Vulture, tried a lil mining and trading in Python. All three where ok, but ultimatly feel like they need a lot of work.
I find the way power play merits are gotten is just painful, postman or civilian killer, nope sorry too slow and the merits you get for what you do make no sense, see the multitude of 1 merit per kill or 15 merits per kill threads.
I love the Python, would never have tried it out if I was trying to enjoy the none explorer stuff.....But generally I find myself looking at mission boards with sad eyes, all the fun stuff seems to be elite status required....so I end up back in a high res zone killing clippers etc, all the time thinking to myself "why are all these pirates etc dropping into an area they know security patrols are in", then I shrug and continue grinding out the millions I need for the A powerplant.

So for me exploration is the only thing I really enjoy in the game currently, regardless of the fact that there is so much that needs adding to it right now. At least when Im the other side of the core I'm not sure what Im gona find.
I'll give this power play thing another 2 weeks, if nothing really improves, I'm taking my 19ly jump range yacht back into the black and I aint coming back

...once you have gone out exploring once and come back there's no point in doing it again? ...

I find this statement so much at odds with my feelings about exploration that it's like reading words in a language I don't comprehend.

No offense meant - but exploration, even as simplistic and repetitive as it is, is an end in itself.

With apologies to John Masefield:
I must go out to the black again, to the lonely lights in the sky,
And all I ask is a stout ship and a star to steer her by;
And the hyperspace kick and supercruise song and the hull plates creaking,
And the atmosphere haze on a planet's face, with the bright dawn breaking.

I must go out to the black again, for the call of the orbiting spheres
Is a wild call and a clear call I cannot fail to hear;
And all I ask is a planet to find with features that please the eye,
With gossamer rings, and darkling moons, and twin suns in the sky.

I must go out to the black again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the comet’s way, the asteroid's way, far from the worlds of strife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trek’s over.

Exploration is attractive! I'm on trip number 4 at the moment. I sometimes wish I had a log of where I've been, but considering that two of the trips were during beta, it's probably OK. It's great to get First Discovered By tags, but you get paid anyway if the system shows as Unknown.

How many times will a system need to be visited and scanned before it becomes Known? Anyone knows?

I care little for golden bananas in pockets of space, but I'd be interested in a little more interaction with the planetary surfaces. Landings, and detailed cloudscapes for gas giants, are on my wish list for exploration. Until that happens, I'm happy to hop semi-randomly from system to system in search for the unknown.

:D S
