Horizons Surface Missions for Rare materials

I spent and hour or three the other night trying to find a non nuclear approach to a surface mission at a ++ security base. Not one but two Exquisite Focus Crystals would be my reward.

The data point I had to scan was on the second level, the entire base surrounded by a no trespass zone. There were also supporting ships coming and going. I eventually found a reasonably close approach point from where I planned to zoom in, boost up there and scan the datapoint when the vipers cleared off.

Long story short I abandoned the mission after a few deaths. Once that trespass timers up I died pretty swiftly putting aside falling skimmers, returning vipers and my epic ineptitude at getting airborne, was it ever possible to do like this?

Sorry, these missions range from easy to crazy to cater for different skill level and size of groups.
The only thing you can really do is see how it goes like you did and decide if you are able to do it or not.

I've noticed that NPC ships reset a lot when you mode switch. So if ships are pestering you, do a mode switch, and they won't be there when you get back, BUT new ones can spawn.

Worth a shot.

I've approached Farraguts near barnacles, and they were spazzing out in various weird ways, but they started working properly on mode switches, with brand-new escorts also running around.

I'm looking forward to the next mission I stumble upon. I will spend time properly examining the site from the ship, make a simple map. I can see how doable these are for a couple of players and blasting the defences but for little old me alone, even after destroying all the ground defences there are the random ships arriving to consider. I'm far from convinced they are achievable alone.
