Took a run at a surface base today, didn't actually bother with a mission for it despite the title of the thread, just went for a medium security ++ base to see what was up.
I'm not entirely sure I'm a big fan of not being able to target... well... anything.
I think I understand what the idea was, when your in a ship, and can't target the stuff, it's to make it so it's less simple to just nuke the place from orbit, and while I was a big promoter of making the bases harder to nuke from orbit, this method seems weird, and slightly annoys me.
But this even happens in the SRV... the vehicle specifically designed for these activities. Surely, that thing should be able to target everything.
Thinking about it, I believe lots of things were on my contacts once I was muh closer in the SRV, so perhaps it's a heat based thing, and all the ground objects have VERY low heat levels, meaning you need to be really close to see them on your contacts list.
I also ran out of ammo WAY before being able to kill the stuff that was there, in my SRV, that kind of sucked too really. I was sort of getting into it, then ran out of ammo.
I'm not sure what to make of these, they seem like they could be really amazing fun, but this attempt kind of wasn't.
Has anyone made any videos/tutorials on how to handle these things? I ended up leaving fairly dissapointed in the end.
