Surface Recovery Missions

Getting back into Horizons after returing to the game for a long time off just to fight thargoids which was difficult but engaging and rewarding. Now I'm back to surface mission and recovery to try and get assembly instructions from crash sites and I'm recalling how completely lopsided they made these foot missions. Site is clear, I get out and start to do my recovery with level 1 crap that can't be upgraded until I collect enough items including RNG instructions. And a ship drop 4 fighters with guns strong enough to take out my Scorpion SRV before I can even kill one of them with the turret. The complete balony (insert censored laguage of your own here) of scavengers with hand weapons that can take out a vehicle including your ships shields mean their guns are completely overpowered. Ridiculous and unrewarding game play for a threat level 2. Come on FDev I've waited 2 years for you to balance on foot missions so players can progress.

Haven't had them do that to mine, but I'm practiced.

I go in on foot and snipe from the rooftops. I have noted the enemy snipers seem a bit more sneaky now. They weren't using their helmet lights and stand way far off. You don't know until you either see the pink cloud coming for your head or hear it buzz by.

The Scarab SRV is like a modern car - no real body strength that a heavy sneeze will penetrate.

Sitting still whilst getting shot at is not a good tactic. Use speed and the longer range guns.

I would not recommend a stand up fight against scavs at a PoI, even with better gear. At least in a settlement you can use cover and pick them off.

A natural coward, as soon as scavs appear I duck in my Scarab, target one, and reverse out of there to 300m or so. Then I go into turret mode and pick them off one by one as they come at me.

I reset pips, then weapons, weapons, shields, giving me 2 in shields, 0.5 in engine and 3.5 in weapons.

If they start to get close I run away some more. The Scarab has more range than the scavs, they really don't stand a chance.

The Scorpion is probably great but when I try and use it I always miss, whereas I find the Scarab has remarkably accurate aim.

tbh, the time it takes to climb into your vehicle can be a drawback. You can use your ship for cover, its shields are like a shield grenade except it's also got a convenient ammo box right at your feet. Speaking of grenades, use them liberally.
