Surface scanner drones dissapearing

So Im at a planet with 2 rings... I fire my drone at the inner ring and it shows the hotspots but whenever i fire at the outer ting the drones just go through it

Ive tried exiting game and leaving the system and coming back but its still not working. I scanned this said ring last night but now nothing is working to show the hotspots

any FD Devs please help! I cant do any surface scans! The drones just go straight through the belts and this happens to me on EVERY belt. Ive just wasted an hour trying it in different systems

Hello, barnett71.

I think you will need to go to the bug reporting forum and fill out a report, describing in detail what is happening when you attempt to map the rings or belts. But before you do, let's just take a moment to see if there might be something you may have overlooked.

1) In your last two posts, you said the drones were going through "belts" - do you mean the Asteroid Belt clusters? Asteroid belt clusters are unmappable as I understand them.

2) Some planets and systems were deemed unmappable since they are so well known - the obvious ones are Sol, Archenar, and Alioth - and thus any rings within them are probably unmappable as well. If you are in the Bubble, and hence near those systems, you may be in an unmappable system, and thus your probes will not work.

3) When aiming, are you accounting for gravity?

4) What size are the rings you are aiming for, and how far away are they from the next set of rings? I've personally found that thin rings, far removed from their wider siblings, can be very hard to hit.

5) When you are propely aligned with a ring it will say (ring) as the drone target, does it say that?

6) A number ofv ery small rings, or multiple appearing rings with very small gaps will appear in the system map as one ring, very few systems have more than two rings so if you are trying to map multiple rings make sure there are actually multiple rings recorded in the system map for that body.

thanks for the reply

1 - Sorry I meant planetary rings
2 - I mapped the ice ring in question yesterday and when i came back today the info wasnt saved like previous rings - and when i fire the drone it just goes through it
3 - see above
4 - big rings! inside is metallic (which i managed to scan a minute ago) but the main ice ring i cant scan

varonica

5 - yeah i have the 'ring' displayed when i fire at it
6 - weird thing is i mapped the ring yesterday and now the info has gone and cant re-scan it with a drone

UPDATE

I can now scan other rings in same system and other systems just not the one I want. It has to be a bug somewhere
