The Remote Release Flechetter Launcher has the potential to be game breaking in Ody. Most players do no use it (it is nearly useless or a worse option compared to most everything else in normal combat) so it may not have been apparent in the Alpha.
Point defense is essentially a hard counter to Flechetter Launchers, mines and dumb fire missiles. Ideally they would not be killable from ships due to an insane amount of armour. (The mass of a fixed emplacement on a planet is far less relevant than on a ship.) Players on foot would need to disable the point defense or ecm mounts on foot.
- Stationary targets like the drop vultures can have modules like drives nukes very quickly. (Flechettes ignore shields)
- A single Flechette round can single shot skimmers and are extremely effective against other difficult to hit surface targets.
- Flechettes need little to no power or distributor capacity to fire. On lower g planets staying very cold and continuously raining down death is practical.
- Flechetters come in a turreted (multi crew) version that is nearly as good as the fixed fire version. This allows such a ship to engage up to 3 separate groups of targets at the same time.
- Flechettes are designed for ship to ship combat with a blast radius to match. Against ground targets this makes dodging basically impossible.
