Surprised at the quality difference between type-10 and chieftain

Just trying the beta now, and honestly im a little shocked at the quality difference between the two new ships..

- The Alliance Chieftain is immaculate both inside and out.
- The Type-10 is so obviously a ship kit (with poor texture work and poor taste/styling) added to the type-9 with a few extra touches.

The quality difference its so dramatic makes me wonder how could such a thing come about from Frontier. One hand can release top quality and the other a dodgy hack, into the same game no less. I'm lost to imagine what happened.

...If there's any consolation at least the type-9 is getting a buff :)

Don't see much wrong with the T10 model myself.

Sure, the styling is subjective (and, as somebody who's always liked the T9, I think it's bloody brilliant) but there's not much wrong with the actual model.
The way the ship ident displays is slightly wonky on one side, I'm not sure what all those "rocket pods" are about and it's got those landing issues but, OTOH, it's pretty nice the way it displays asymmetrical wear to the paint.

The T-10 is just an old reinforced T9 Chassis, not quite sure what more you would expect. The Chieftain is a brand new ship.

Lol, if frontier change their development process to match the lore of the thing they're making, that's pretty out there ;)

That's exactly where im coming from. Given the base type 9 is so awesome such a slight to it i probably took to heart. The bug with the texture gap on the landing gear is on the type 10 even.

That's cool. Does the chieftain have that feature?

What's the name of the feature the Anaconda has where the hull actually shows combat damage? As far as I know, it's the only ship like that.

As to OP's comment about build quality, I wonder what the actual development costs are for a ship. Do they use in-house 3d artists or do they outsource it?

As far as the ships are concerned, FD have given each manufacturer their own style. The Type 10 fits in perfectly with the other Type n ships, as far as I can see. :)

Is it still in Beta? The T9 model (Along with other ships) has had weird bugs for years now, the ones I know about seem to be gone in Beta on both the T9 & T-10.

Damage modelling?

Thing with the paint is pretty nice because on big ships it's really obvious that the wear is a mirror-image but on the T10 it definitely isn't.

It has been fun to fly my fully engineered T-10 in Open Beta and watch idiot murder hobos try to grief me.

I built my T10 for exploration, originally.
When I got back I rebuilt it as a combat ship, with heavy-duty armor and multiple HRPs/MRPs.

The final Integrity number made me laugh out loud. :D

Was really looking forward to the Type-10. Wanted to switch it up and replace my Tradeconda.

Went out to buy one. Sold it before I reached my home system.
5 minutes of SC was all I could bear.

Blimey :(

Amen!

Well, one's cobbled together from the crap of dead or dying T9s and repurposed for fighting Thargoids (allegedly) and the other is brand spanking new.

I like the Type-10 a lot as a PvE combat gun boat / multi-roll ship. I have it engineered to where it makes short work of most all NPCs including Elite Anaconda and FDLs. I do HATE that spoiler though!!

I like the new Chieftain also but haven't figured out all the best ways to use it yet.

It's a complement to Frontier to say you don't like one ship and like another or that you like different ships for different reasons. It speaks well of the game that the ships are so different. That's not the case with some of the other space games.

Co's... Game lore... The T10 was a rapid response vehicle...
