Re: the SRV shields not protecting against rock damage ... yeah it's a bit weird and does seem like a bug (especially since shields do protect a ship from a heavy landing) but it's true as far as I know (would be awesome if someone wanted to do some thorough tests). I'm currently putting my own SRV where my mouth is (so to speak) by circumnavigating an entire planet with the shields turned off (to conserve fuel) ...

Ok, found my pics! I hit at least 225 m/s, though that was probably the max, as the shot appears to be shortly before impact.

Those were some of the most epic mountians I've found, especially considering that the ranges are full of the highest mountains I've found and the canyons are equally epic.
