Engineers Swap my rails for missiles?

Been using rails for ages because I like them. But now with the heat issue maybe it is time to swap them.

Are missiles worth using now?

Rails are still superior against shields and have better penetration. Missiles are okay against shields and are better against modules than they were before. It's an improvement overall. Might be worth the switch if the heat is a big issue. All you can do is try it out and see how you like it.

Don't.

Rails are far better, although they generate a lot of heat and you can't chain fire them.

Missiles are now better but as auxiliary weapons only. They have few ammo, they don't do much damage to hull or shields, but they're great at wiping out modules and especially hardpoints. You can use them to destroy an enemy weapons after you dropped their shield, very useful against very dangerous foes to soften them up such as the ones in assassination missions.

I am currently doing missions, gunning around in a Courier with two burst lasers and guided missiles.
It's super fun and pretty effective. Rails are too hot for the Courier, anyway.

Well they are not as bad as I thought, I use them on my Asp X for big stuff and they seem fine. I use multi cannons for the small stuff.

So keeping them for now.

Try Plasma Accelerators if you can use them.
Before 2.1, I was flying a clipper with two class 2 railguns — I swapped one of them for a PA (un-modified), and I swear it feels like they've buffed the damage on them.
Direct hits to a Python's power plant does around 30 damage.

Yea I like the damage from those but the travel time of the plasma ball makes me miss a lot, with rails I can hit from further away because of the fast travel time of the ammo upon release.
