Swapping from headset to monitor

Doesn't look like I'm getting a refund so I played thru the starting mission but when I took my headset off (I hate the flat screen thing + not set the bindings for Hotas / mouse yet), the game was a small window on my monitor with pants graphics, went into settings, did borderless and upped the resolution and pretties and played it - not awful, not great and mostly stayed on the roof to take them down so pretty easy.

Is there any way of having two settings that auto switch with HMD off or on? Like AA off for VR, on for monitor since you don't need to restart the game for it to take effect (which is kind'a what I was expecting when Fdev said you could play that way).

Not any I know of. We have been asking for it since Alpha.

But I rigged up 2 Razer keyboard macros to switch back and forth. The one switching to 2D takes 30 keystrokes. And, they are fragile. I wouldn’t want to be caught dead with them in any professional setting.

Also, switch back and forth and eventually Oculus just freezes after a few switches. They simply broke the VR, not just the perf., and I suspect they didn’t test VR at all. Otherwise, such glaring soft lock problem at VR outfitting and other as glaring VR bugs would have been part of any reasonable regression test script.

What’s more worrisome is such a game breaking, glaring, and embarrassing bug, which should be a low hanging fruit, is not fixed by neither of the two hot fixes. That should tell you about their priority. This… fixing this VR Pancake problem, I would guess is even lower prioritized.

So, I would suggest that you also rig up some macros as a stop gap measure, until they fix it. It might be a long wait, particularly after Braben’s post, which empathized only on performance, but not bugs. So, anything other than perf fixes, you can expect to have lower priority, thus long wait.
