Swearing in game

I was just wondering does anyone know if there will be any cussing in this game. Any answers are appreciated thanks!

Probably me over comms to buddies, and there'll be some 40yr old kidz abusing n00bs*, but possibly not in the actual text of the game. Frontier haven't really set out what age they're aiming the game at, as far as I can remember.

*Thankfully Frontier are planning robust /ignore functions to deal with that kind of behaviour

In a game like this it is doubtful swearing adds anything.
Im not against swearing in entertainment, but i feel it has to add something to the experience, not just be there because it makes it cool for kids.

That is of course NPC interaction, player chatter is obviously down to the players, though i would be surprised if Frontier didnt build in a swear filter for the text chat system that can be enabled/disabled to keep it clean for younger audience.

Maybe if they create their own verbals like..

The Thriking engines blown

That guy has a face like a thargoids spentical ...
Dunno what it means but id shoot him :)

Welcome to the forums :)

I imagine you can say what you want .. however some words may be filtered out (if you select the option in the menus) and people may ignore you, so .. yeah - I guess so.

+1 for no swearing in-game text. It's simply not needed, and attempting to use bad language to appear "edgy" or "gritty" fails miserably as it always, always appears forced and unnatural.

Have a profanity filter switch, be able to mute or block voice from those you dislike. Bad language is perfectly acceptable when it is spontaneous and meaningful, and I don't give a thargoids spentacle if you disagree :)

One thing I'm wondering, will the Thargoids have learned to speak better English?

"Eat bison, discos" is a memorable phrase given on death!

I'm sure my reply will make some unhappy, please others and some just won't care. I was a sailor so I talk like one. I am extremely against censorship. In anger I have been known to use colorful wording. It is the way I speak and yes I do try to watch it, but I am not always successful. Now given that I also think that as far as NPC's go. OK there are going to be circumstances where a colorful phrase is not only realistic, it is appropriate. Now I do not think there is a reason for them to drop the f bomb every other sentence.
And yes it has not been determined yet what age group this game is being designed for. But I do realize that there will be kids playing. Therefore I feel it would be completely appropriate for Frontier to implement a filter that is on by default and you would have to turn it off to hear adult content. And the ignore feature is always good as well for many reasons. Not just cussing. There are going to be people you just don't like and really don't want to talk to. That is just life. It happens. If I've offended any of you it was not my intention. I'm just trying to be honest.

(*NOTE* I might mention, if you have never listened to children and I mean little kids talking to each other. You may well be surprised at their "adult" language. Like a very large percentage of them according to studies. I can guarantee you that your child hears it every single day. That is a fact. So how much we are protecting them in any game from "adult" language is questionable.)

Jabokai. LOL. If you've ever been in the military that is pretty close, grin. OK maybe not as much as it use to be. Guys in war facing death cuss. Much like smoking or whatever. A attempt to appear tough, a defense mechanism if you like. It is what the majority of society does, so is it realistic? Yeah pretty much so. Do I advocate it constantly? NO. As you can see from my post I am capable of quite colloquial speech. But I am also capable of anger or my desire to express a point sometimes with colorful speech if you will.
I have been told I'm a very kind person and I do try. It is my nature. But I am human and capable of of anger like anyone else. Read history, some of the biographies of them include them using colorful language. Do I think it belittles them to do so? No. I think it is just life happening. ;)

No ******* way!? I ******* play ****loads better when I ******* swear like a ****!

Some parts in Norway swering is part of the local language so if you ask em to moderate it they just look on you oddly, then they try it for 2-3 sentences and slip back to old habit and carry on as normaly.

And if NPC have a Language thats little rough around the edges it add to the atmosphere and imersion, as long as it is not made over the top and to obvious. (piratbases)
