Switch Seats

With the advent of multi-crew, it's now possible for CMDR's to sit in spare seats. So why not let us choose where to pilot the ship with multiple seats available?

On the Cobra MK III, as one example, those with culture and a respect for intelligence can drive on the right, where those with less developed frontal lobes and a penchant for Freedom Fries can drive on the right side.

It's a win-win. [haha]

I'm glad you recognize American superiority. [big grin]

And I want multicrew for the Keelback first.

Because the HUD is likely linked to the seat; because this is Frontier, and it's entirely probable that the ship controls are defined on a specific point within the ship; the notion of fluid locations for ship controls may not have been considered a priority. Not all ships have two seats side-by-side for multi-crew. And none of the two-seat ships have mirrored dashes.

So the UI will float over a surface that isn't necessarily designed for it (the exception would be Lakon ships, that all universally seem to use a spare tree trunk for the dash). Frontier would have to update a lot of ship interiors and potentially shift seat locations, which likely isn't trivial.

This also has some awkward combinations for what would be the RIO (rear), ending up being the driver; this might work for a cockpit with an elevated RIO; but the fed ships and Vulture are going to be very awkward with the second seat placement for the pilot being very high, to the side and well back from the front (zero peripheral vision). Most multi-crew ships would need interior overhauls to achieve this.

Unrelated but amusingly, FDL drivers are still screwed in a seat swap, because it'd be the other side of the canopy obstructing the view. So for the troll factor alone, it is tempting. :D

I kind of like how the side the pilot sits on varies with different manufacturers. It adds to their individuality.

Anybody cultured enough to sit on the right should be driving Gutamaya anyway :D

Looks like it's a right-right situation...

... yeah but ....

The captain in charge of the flight deck sits in the left-hand seat.

;)

Not in helicopters...

So a hypothetical question here-

If you're in a FDS/FAS/FGS... if you're seated in the chair in back, are you then unable to helm the ship? ;)
