Switching Game Files/Folder to New SSD?.

When I built my present PC I installed a 125GB SSD as the operating drive and used my two 500GB HDD's for storage. As one of the HDD's had been my previous operating drive and already had my FD Games folder in it I just left it as was and if I remember correctly I just pointed the PC to it the first time I opened EDH and it has worked fine like that since.
Recently I installed a Samsung 970 EVO V-NAND M.2 1TB SSD and have been thinking of moving all my Elite Dangerous related stuff including the game files to the new SSD. Would this be just a simple "Cut & Paste" or "send to" job as it would be moving a normal folder?. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Clone your existing drive to the new drive and get everything working first, then worry about getting ED working on the new SSD. Use something like Teracopy to move your stuff, a much safer copy program than regular windows copy or move.

just make some symbolic links.
if it seems daunting to you there are apps that will do it for you.

not sure why the above poster wants you to clone your disk.

Because if he is installing a new Samsung 970 EVO V-NAND M.2 1TB SSD he should be using that as his system disk, that will reduce startup and wait times enormously, doing anything else seems a poor second choice!

You don't even need to install ED (FD launcher version). I have reinstalled W10 last week, restored my user folders and the game launches just fine without having it actually installed first. In other words, moving it to another drive should be no problem at all. (cut and paste). Just edit your desktop link(s) to point to the new drive/folder and you should be fine.

I must admit I did assume that anyone installing a new 1TB SSD would naturally install it as the system drive, so that may be where the confusion lies.

Much thanks for the reply but as others have pointed out It isn't necessary to clone the drive as I installed the new drive a few weeks back using the Samsung Data Migration software to swap my Windows10 etc from the old Samsung 125GB to the new one. That went fine and I installed that empty drive into my wife's PC. Now I have the new M2 drive as the OS but still have my ED game and files on the old 500GB HDD that it has been on for the last 6yrs or so.

Wouldn't it be better to use the "send to" option as if anything went wrong I would still have my original install and be able to delete those folders once assured it was all working?.

That's why I suggested Teracopy, it has much more functionality than just windows file options and will allow you to verfiy the files before deleting the originals.

Ah ok that parts already done, the Samsung migration software is a cloning software anyway. But do use something more feature rich than windows copy to move the files around.

File verification

TeraCopy can verify files after they have been copied to ensure that they are identical. This is done by comparing hashes of source and target files.

I does not matter, all the important files like game/graphics settings, keybinds, etc are stored in %localappdata% of your C: drive anyway. The only exception being your log files which are stored in the game directory. If something went wrong (what? how?), the launcher would download any missing files upon trying to start the game.

But sure, "send to" or copy&paste will work just as well.
