Switching Machines

Hey guys, dumb question. What am I missing here when swapping to play on a different machine? The only option available on the new machine is demo mode once logged in (code has been applied). I'm logged out of the current machine and the Elite Dangerous progeam shutdown.
On the new machine, it shows me as logged in, just demo mode is the only option to play. That does work, tried a training mission to check.

If you run through steam you just need to download steam and the game to your new machine and log into your steam account- good to go.

If straignt from frontier- i can't help.

Yeah, that's all good.
Just completed a deinstall / reinstall (with reboots) on the second machine - still the same only Play Demo option

Shows top right corner - Welcome <my registered name>

All text is in orange and not the usual blue

I used to use 2 different PCs to play ED without issues. You just need to log in and do the verification gubbins.

Obviously, you can't be logged in to both at once. Lol

Worked fine for me, but I also use steam, which makes life easier.

Just a thought, the second machine, it is 64bit?

In fairness it's an older machine (has better spec graphics card than my laptop) and 32 bit - the installer on ED site shows 32/64 bit and 32/64 bit + DX11 options - have tried both.

Is that a rouse these days and we need to be 64Bit?

Demo works just fine btw. Have shot a few sideys :-D

I play on two separate machines, one in VR and one not. I installed thru steam but half the time I don't even open steam and run directly from the launcher and it works fine.

None of this helps you of course, I'm drawing a blank on what the problem could be.

They shut down the 32 bit client one or two updates ago.

Hi,

Elite Dangerous is (IIRC) either 32 bit or 64 bit, however, you have to have bought Elite Dangerous. If you bought Horizons, I suspect you're out of luck...

It may also relate to the fact your saved game uses some 64 bit features...

Support would be a good place to start

Ah right, yes I see on my laptop (64bit) launcher there are no 32 bit options like there used to be.

After all these years the 2nd machine is still running very well with an AMD 64 FX-60 Dual Core jobbie - NVidia 560Ti - OS is 32 bit Windows 8. Pretty much 0 bloatware

However, 64 Bit you say - Well there's the excuse, urrrm I mean functional reason to now purchase a new office desktop.

Thanks for the input folks.

:-D

That will be it... For the install at least.

You should be able to upgrade to either Windows 8 64bit or Windows 10 64bit & everything will run.

But...

Not going to get the greatest gaming experience on a duel core AMD with the 560Ti though.

Possibly a dumb question, but does the OP have the launcher open on his first machine while trying to play on the second?

The launcher is where you actually log in as I recall, which suggests that it gets forced into demo mode if it detects your account already in use elsewhere.

Oh yeah, appreciate that - Wont be upgrading the OS - it's still Windows 8 and 8.1/10 just wont upgrade. Gets about 2 hours in then says nope and rolls back. Just prepping what I'd need to do to transfer the game to a different machine ahead of getting one an it seems pretty straight forward. You know, those planning and testing things :-D

The next machine is looking to be 8700k with 1080 TI - I'll be golden.

Defo just 1 launcher up and running

No, they are running a PC with a 32bit OS, the only part of ED that plays on a 32Bit OS is the demo because it hasn't been updated yet.

This

Rep all round folks, thanks again.
