Symbol on the galactic map - what does it mean?

I stumbled apon this weird little icon on the galactic map:



Does somebody know what it means?
My theory is that it marks the systems/stations you have a mission to do.

That's exactly it CMDR.

Yes, that will show by the location if you have a mission for it.

 

[Feldspar]

It appears on the system map, too, showing you which station you need to dock at.

 

[Xendrick]

This comes up when you have a mission involving that system.
