Horizons Synthesis Materials for Exploration - Your advice please ;)

Before I go off gallivanting around our galaxy, I want to make sure that I have chance of surviving, so I have made up a quick and dirty spread sheet of a shopping list of synthesis materials to get. My ASP wont have any weapons to keep the jump range up and it will be fitted with the best equipment I can afford. I don't want a large spread of stuff I can make, but I have limited it to just the few categories as can be seen in the image. The upper part is just a reference as to what materials are required and the lower part, I can adjust the amount of refills/crafts/synthesis and balance it to get the best ratio of materials.

OK, you can see where I am going here I hope. What would you add/delete/change to make this better and why ?

Cheers, Kitty

That looks reasonable....Iv modified a spreadsheet that has been posted on the subject a while back, to discount stuff that I wasn't going to synthesize. You've got the same 4 that Iv got, but you're missing a 5th - SRV Repair.

Im currently out exploring & I had my full stash of materials until a few days ago when I cleared out 25 units of stuff like Carbon & things that are easily found at most locations.
Im more concerned about upping or finding more of the rarer materials to give me 50 & 100% FSD boosts than the others on my list.
Still kicking myself though - a couple of week ago I stumbled across a 100% Metal planet with Metallic Meteorites lying all over the place...I only blasted 3-4 then moved on. Should have milked that planet dry for them rarer items!!

I did wonder about SRV Repairs, but in over 2Mm, (according to the stats), I have only ever had about 10% hull damage, and that was when I first started trying it. I guess you could say I am a boring careful driver; I am in ED, but when I used to play Forza 4, it was a different story  As the SS shows a considerable amount of Nickel, I would only need to grab a couple of Iron, which is very common, to make a repair.

I don't remember seeing that post you mentioned, Ill have a good search and see what I come up with.

I am not really planning to do a lot of exploration on planets. There are plenty enough within the bubble. The material list is really just a safety net, in case I start using up the FSD Injection.

Thanks for the reply though, nice to know I am reasonably on the money :D +rep for taking the time to reply!

Be aware if you are heading off to the Pleiades in an unarmed Asp, you will likely attract the attention of some trigger happy campers. I made the mistake yesterday of starting in open instead of Mobius. Got interdicted twice in Maia just flying 8 ls away from Obsidian Orbital. May have been unlucky but just use caution.

Kitty - Since there is only a 300 unit limit to the amount of material one can carry. I would lower the number of certain of your Synths... especially in an Explore build with no weapons.
In that type of configuration, you'll be wanting more of the Jumponium (FSD Injections) to get to those places you normally would not be able to get to
Here is what I usually carry
SRV Basic fuels: 8-10 (anytime refuel)
SRV Standard / Premium Fuels: 2-3 (usually 1-2 of each) Premium Fuels last much, much longer (especially when you turn off un-needed systems)... so I use them when I get them.
SRV Basic Ammo: 4-5 (not used all that often)
SRV Standard /Premium Ammo: 1-2 of each... again used when I have them and NEED them (which is very rare indeed)... but not really required unless going up against the Goliaths. NOTE: This and the SRV Premium Refuel buffs disappear if you are not topped off before docking while repairing/restocking your ship (edit:) At A Station.
AFM Refill Premium: 1-2 (not used very often at all...but if I need it, it works fast) Since AFM only repairs damage to the ship... I try not to damage the ship and do not worry about whether the AFM is full or not... if it comes down to it, I'd rather get full use out of an AFMU load first before reloading it.
Again... This buff goes away if you reload at the station.
-
The rest is filled with Jumponium... all 3 versions. 25 basic, 25 standard, 20 Premium - Not only can it get you to places far above your ships range... it also helps with fuel efficiency for smaller jumps in areas where refueling is unavailable (or if no Fuel scoop installed).
-
NOTE: SRV Hull Repair: a couple of basics is all anyone needs unless they are buffing for a Goliath... the Ship repairs the hull every time you recover the SRV... so this one has little real use in game.

Thanks Michael, that too makes a lot of sense.

I have modified my SS quite a bit. It is strange, I based the Premium FSD injection based upon the rarity and the fact that I only had to find one more. This afternoon I went back to my favourite planet inside the bubble and managed to pick up another 7 Yttrium, which I found quite staggering as previously 1 in about a week of POI hunting and material hunting. It would seem that the Niobium is now becoming the rare material. But I am patient

I wont have much cargo space on my ASP when I start out, it will mainly be fuel storage, so the advanced ammo wont have any use. Just the basic stuff for popping rocks is all I need.

I did notice that when I logged in after making cuppa and having a break, the ammo and hull had been replaced/repaired, so I am now thinking that I really don't need that much at all.

It is strange, I thought I had a good working understanding of what I needed, but that has all changed. The more I understand, the less I know

I think some more coarse tuning is required, especially as the rare materials seem to be dropping more than ever before. I wonder if they have changed anything on the server, or perhaps it may be that I am now in a place where the surface was volcanic and the description is right - more surface metals where there was previous volcanic activity.

I know in another thread they say that the materials dropped are totally random, but this planet has only ever produced certain rares and even some of the uncommon mats have not dropped here :S

It is fairly random... but there is some structure as well. Every planet has specific types of drops... so it is not surprising to hear that you have found a great source of Yttrium!
Take a look at this thread for all (well "most" anyway) that we currently know about materials... and where to find them. Let Nexolek know if you'd like to contribute to the effort. :D

I've had that page bookmarked for a while now. I can read and create spread sheets, but that one is a little too complex for a simpleton like me. I think that planets inside the bubble and so close to the starting worlds wont impress him much. I have only been going on the descriptions of the worlds and it appears to me, that they make a lot of sense when it comes to material searching and drop rates. I am happy enough at the moment, I seem to be getting a lot of what I need ;)

I certainly haven't been keeping a note of the amounts that drop here, just the rares really, and that has only really started today since "being in the right place at the right time" :D
