Sys eng wep

I understand what ENG and WEP do. But what does converting power to your SYS "system" do? Help shields charge faster? ?? maybe?

Ehm i think this post belongs in a different place! But yes it helps with the shield recharge and general strength of the shield i believe :)

What it wont do:
Make your shields START charging sooner

What it will do:

Have you ever noticed how shields often start charging quickly and then slow right down? SYS is to be considered a 'reserve'. When shields start charging, if you look at SYS, it will usually start to deplete. If this reaches the bottom, shields start charging slower. You can divert power to SYS when the yellow bars are low, this is pretty much the only time it's of benefit. If your shields can charge back up without draining the yellow bars down to the bottom, you'll never need to divert power to shields, as your shield generator is already recharging shields at it's maximum speed.

I believe that having more pips in shields will also increase the strength of your shields. This is something that was tested by many players back in Beta 2, and I haven't seen evidence of it changing. Basically they tested the number of sequential hits it would take to take down shields, and the numbers went up with every pip.

Essentially this means you can divert power to support the shields before they go down, especially when you're being chased and in other situations where you aren't in an offensive position (or have no weapons fitted).

As far as I understand it, the pips are the speed at which power goes into 'sys', and the bars above are power reserves.

If power reserves are down from the shields recharging (whilst they're up but had previously taken damage), this might explain why the number of sequential hits increases, as the shields are recharging faster before they're taken down completely and recharging temporarily stops. That's just my theory anyway, but indeed it's possible diverting power to SYS could increase total shield power I've just never seen any evidence of this myself.
