System and Galaxy Map won't open

Hi all,

I'm new here. I tried searching, but am not having much luck. Can't find an answer on the wider internet either.

Just picked up Odyssey and was checking out some things. Ended up going on a mission and dying...oddly i got fined (a lot, and more than I have). I guess this is normal, but I'm not sure i understand. Its less relevant, but leads to my issue.

I can't pay off the fine. I can't use the mission board. So I figured I figured i would just hop a ride to a different system (where i didn't have a fine on me) and try to get me some jobs to clear that debt. This is where I hit the snag. I don't know where to go first off, but i figured I'd look at the map and see what i can see. Open up insight, select navigation, choose a map (Galaxy or Star, same result) and it starts to open (looks oddly zoomed in like it's not scaled right), then closes, drops briefly to the mission board which closes immediately (I assume because of fine).

So i can't look at any map. No problem, let me go check Apex, they have the same map. Go talk to the dude. No good. Same exact thing. Short distance, long distance. Map briefly opens, closes dropping to mission board before exiting out.

Again...can't check any map. So i cannot find another place to go. I'm kinda stuck.

Does anyone have any ideas here? I'm not far in, so i can try to delete the character and start again, but i kinda wanna figure it out.

Also...any suggestions where to go for a new player?

Thanks. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Sadly, that's part of the problem. I cant open the mission board because i have a fine. And i cant go somewhere to find a mission board that will let me because i can't open the map.

Being the newb that I am. Any suggestions on a nearby place to go (in system even) that has an area controlled by a different faction?

Man it would be a bummer to delete and start over.

Just pay out it. There is a panel on a terminal like a "law contact" ot smth. I cant see it now, because I'm not home and I dont know how it named in english version, because of using another local. Its right top corner of main frame on the terminal screen. There you can find an option to pay out all fines and rewards.

Can't pay it...not enough credits. Its like 100k and I only have 72k or something. So not far from being able to get it done, but so stuck.

Heya,

That is exactly what i ended up trying. I had an extra pistol (not sure why) got me the 30k that i needed to get me over the 100. So i got out of that mess.

Then went on a mission and apparently didn't stop to be scanned is a capitol offence and they killed me. Lol...ended up in jail...someplace strange. Had 2k...enough to get to a place, take a small courier mission which got me back to my ship. LOLOLOL, what a learning curve. But i got there.

I am playing Horizons after a major system failure. Formatted SSDs, reinstalled everything.
ED is working in 2D and VR except for the galaxy map. When I try to zoom in on anything, it zooms in and then back out.
I must be missing something. Using a HOTAS 56 profile. Any ideas?

I found the problem. I let HCS create a Saitech 56 profile for Elite Dangerous. Somehow, a Z-axis was assigned to the map zoom function.
I removed the assignment……map system working as expected.
