Having seen alot of posts in the past about Players landing a stray shot at Police i.e. in a RES and getting instantly attacked, I got a little surprise when I managed to land some stray MultiCannon shots at a local (Allied) System Authority in a HighRES during an extended BH run.

Very neat, can't recall ever seeing something like that outside of a Conflict Zone, where a stray shot as well doesn't instantly turn everyone Hostile.
Didn't even get a fine.

Recent stealth change or did I miss something in a Changelog ?

They fixed it to make it slightly harder to register as an attack.
There is a limit, so don't push it.
Railguns, and PAs tend to go straight past the limit though.

Of course, this still isn't enough for some!
We still get "I repeatedly shot a cop and became wanted...waaahh!" threads. Lol

Night before last i nicked a cop in a res and 5 or 6 of them turned red instantly. I got out ok with about 50% hull and jumped to a system over and snuck back and paid my fine. 450 credits was the amount of the fine :) So if something changed it changed recently.

Do you mean the message warning you or the fact that you can get away with stray shots?

The former seems new, the latter has been in place since 1.x.

If you have them targeted or if they have no shields then it results in a fine as normal. Or if you break the threshold of damage (so it depends what you nicked them with).

This has been my experience for a long time..I suspect the other anecdotes where players are instantly attacked is more a matter of denial, incorrect perception & expediency..in this forum? Sorry, I must be mistaken!

NB - 'could be poor eyesight too maybe, given the average age of players :D

My eyesight is good enough to play the game and i have no interest in exagerating, thats just the experience i had. I am neither blind nor stupid and i am old, as least as people categorize age, and that has no effect on my ability to play the game.

If you are Allied or possibly friendly, they give you a warning, as long as you have not done too much damage. This has been the case for some time. Not that I ever hit a target I am not aiming at.

I'm still trying to figure out what ship that is in the pic.(just above your sights)
Looks like it's half encased in ice or something.

As far as I'm aware, nothing's changed recently, OP.

What you experienced was added to the game long before horizons came out, shortly after 1.0 was released. Before the changes, *any* stray shots would bring authority ships down upon the offender with a vengeance.

The change added a few rules that allow authority ships to tolerate a few hits now as long as:
-they aren't targeted
-their shields are up
-the damage done is under a certain threshold

The threshold is fairly low, mind you. Most class 1 weapons are afforded a few hits before they turn red on you. Class 2 has far less leeway. Class 3 and 4 don't have much at all, if any since they do great damage to shields and hull.

It's pretty common for me to see a warning after a few accidental hits, and rare for me to get a violent response these days.

It just takes learning what the limits are and how reckless you can be depending on which weapons you have fitted.
