I played solo for some time, to figure out everything. When i felt ready i entered open play. After a while i got greeted by another player, wanted to answer politely but i could not figure out how. I was disappointed. I think this is why most people don't answer when people greet them. A quick tutorial about communication would be as valuable as the one on docking.
When playing mmo's there is always a area chat, you can play alone and keep an eye on the chat to see what's going on. Much easier to see if someone want's to join up and do some missions together.
Right now most people go on about their business being quite antisocial. If you have friends that also play this game then you might be fine with that, but if you have no one this game can feel very lonely.
At least a station chat where you most likely see other players.
