Got attacked by one yesterday, some 200 Ly from nearest populated system. Are they supposed to do that? I've shot plenty of drones (and some accompanying ships when need be) out in the black but this never happened before. But usually I'm just minding my own business while exploring, so I'm not completely familiar with how these things work.
Recap of the circumstances leading to this dramatic event:
I was SRV'ing on some random planet, came across a "restricted" crash site. Thought I'd take out the drones in case there's materials to collect. Didn't notice there was an Adder near by until it was too late and it attacked me. Tried engaging it with the SRV but that was just futile, so I figured I'd take off and maybe it would give up the pursuit at some point. No dice, so I called my ship, hopped into a fighter and took out the Adder. His friend was also there, just sitting around doing nothing. While circling the backstabbing friend, pondering if I should engage, I noticed a new contact popped up on the radar. I turned around and it was a system defence force Vulture bearing down on me, guns blazing. Almost managed to take him out as well, but forgot the planet was 1+ G, hit boost too close to surface and boom I went
Once back at the helm of my ship I just took off. Didn't get any fines/bounties from these engagements, either.
