System Map and Oculus Rift - how can I select things on the map?

I'm probably being stupid here ... but can anyone tell me how I can select items on the System Map if I am using an Oculus Rift? Mouse does not work - and I couldn't find any other way to make it work. As it stands, I can't do mining using the Rift, because I can't select the belts/clusters on the System Map. Any help will be much appreciated!

map the Galaxy Map functions to your hotas (assuming you use one) or a spare gamepad. When using the map, rotate so you are looking at it from "directly above", so its 2D-ish. Use the controller to move the selector so it highlights the red dot that highlights the star system on a 2D plane.

Thankyou for responding, but the question is about the System Map, not the Galaxy Map. I've got the Galaxy Map working fine, but for mining, you need to use the System Map to select clusters (or planets having rings), to see what mineral concentrations your scanner has identified. The question is how I can, in the System Map, move from viewing the details of the star/system alone, to seeing details of each specific planet/cluster in the system. It's easy using a mouse (you just click on the planet or cluster), but when using the Rift, the mouse does not work.

ah sorry about that. for system map I do this:

move mouse over until I am sure it is on the rift screen not the desktop or it will defocus ED
hold down both mouse buttons and drag. This will drag a barely visible square reticle. Hover it over items of interest to see stuff in the info pane on the right.

EDIT: I use rift in extended mode.

But from that screen you can't lock destinations.....
With the same bindings of the Galaxy Map you can move even in the system map.
