I know this has been discussed to death but seriously guys, there is no logic or appeal to this at all.
The feature of fully rendered planet surfaces in the surface map is now available to us. It is a feature that would be very handy in exploration so explorers can look at the surfaces and maybe decide if they would like to visit there. For those that don't want to know until they get there, you don't have to look !
It makes absolutely zero sense to only show us wireframes until we DSS the planet. By that time we're pretty much there already and showing is the picture is now redundant because tha actual planet is right in front of us.
What is the big spoiler to being shown this after an Advanced System Scan ?? Does it take away some mystery or some sense of immersion for people ?? Again, you don't have to look !
As I have said before, this is like me travelling to visit somewhere and just before I turn the corner to see what it looks like, someone gives me a photograph.
Well, too late now buddy, I'm here now.
I simply don't get the logic of it at all. The feature is now in the game and I've yet to hear a convincing argument for showing the fully rendered surface in the system map when you're already up close and personal. IMO showing this after an advanced scan would benefit exploration not be a detriment to it. It would let us know which planets look interesting to visit. With a shed-load of wireframes I`ll likely not bother scanning them and move on. There is less incentive to hang around. The mystery doesn't draw me in any more than it did before we had surface maps.
Weren't Frontier asking for ways to spruce up exploration ? Well here it is. It's just not being used right imo.
Even though this is as it was in 2.1, this has put me off my planned first Sag A run which I wanted to do in a couple of weeks. The new planet surfaces are amazing now and that was a great reason for me to hold off going to Sag A. Not being able to see full rendered surfaces that are a feature in the game is not a deal breaker but it's making me re-think going. Let us see these great planet renders, don't hide them away.
You're fooling yourself if you think wireframes will entice people to scan them rather than move on.
