System Panels in VR

I actually like the auto pop-up on the panels. But it is a problem to have them pop up every time I look left or right. So, I just re-center the view with my head lower in the seat, then raise my head to normal height after it is set. Then to activate the panels, I look left or right and look down slightly. If I don't look down, the panels don't activate. That solved the problem for me.

Or you can hold the UI focus button down while not wanting the panels to appear. So you can bind UI focus button + hat switch to open various panels, and hold ui focus if you don't want them to appear. I have it set up like that. I like the pop-up, though it's not that practical, but its okay for a quick glance (or docking request). When I need to spend more time in a panel, I open it via the button combination so it stays there even if I don't look straight at it. Just remember to have UI back button bound down too to dismiss the panel after you're done with it.

Wow, good idea, I will try that, thank you Cmdr

I hope a more permanent and better solution is coming in 2.4 for the Panels Popping Up issue, whilst the workarounds do work they are just that, workarounds, it needs a solid base integration ideally.

Not sure what you mean. There are options available to you, not work arounds. I have the pop up set up to appear and disappear when I press a certain button/s no matter where I am looking. The only think that I would like are some options on where they pop up instead of the locked in place that we have at the moment. Maybe 2-3 different areas to choose from per ship. Apart from that i find it perfectly fine as it is.

They don't work for all situations though, I cannot turn off each individual panel for when I turn my head left or right, I have bound a button to clear ALL HUD/Panels but that is a workaround. If I go to the Menu and select them to no pop up I then have to re enter the menu to change it back, again a workaround and not a definitive answer. A simple Button Bind to each pop up would suffice to turn it on/off but last time I checked (the other day) there is no way of properly achieving this...unless I'm blind and it's right there already but I swear it isn't!

You can have a button that activate each of the menus. I use a button (shift button) and a POV hat. I click the button and down on the POV hat and the bottom menu springs up, I press it again and it closes or I press the button and right section of the POV hat and the bottom menu closes and it opens up the right hand menu and the same goes for the left etc.

I never have them on so that when my head turn they pop up as I find that very annoying and just gets in the way. If I want them on it's a simple a quick press of a button for me.

Ok thanks I'll have to have another look soon, I don't have a HOTAS but do have a button box that could be used for this I suppose.

this should work fine. Just turn the look to open off for each panel and then bind each panel to one of your buttons.

I like the opening of the menus when I look in the direction, but AFAIK, 1,2,3,4 are the buttons to press by default to open each menu.

ok managed to bind to my button box for each Panel but it's still not quite right, what I'd like is a universal On/Off button bind for Focus The Panel but for all panels. As you can only look at one panel at a time anyway. So have one button for Focus On/Off that way when you turn your head it's not there, press one button and when you turn your head it is there. This would be better for Combat scenarios to have it always on Focus for quick targeting and stuff, then for other times have it turned off until you need it. Currently with this button bind way I'm finding the need to press the buttons all the time, still not ideal for me personally, glad it works for others but it's more of a faff this way for me.

I bind ui focus to the pinkie brake on my warthog. When I pull it, I can use the hat to activate the left or right or top or bottom panel. I disable "look to pop" and just activate panels with ui focus + hat. It's better that way because the panel stays open even when you aren't looking at it. You can glance at it without having to put your face all up in. Works fine with the same bindings when I turn VR off and use the tv also.

I generally like the auto pop up of the Panels. But sometimes I like to look around without the popping up. So I bound the function "user interface" to one of my modifiers (I think as a "only work when pressed" function).

So when I push the button and keeping it pushed, I can look around without popping panels. When I release the button, they pop. This works also when I'm allready looking at a panel: push the button: it disappears. Release the button: it's back again.

This is about perfect for me, as it's exactly how I want them to work.

what do you mean "to one of my modifiers"? As thats roughly the thing I want but instead of keeping the button pressed have it pressed once for Panels Off and then press for Panels On. AFAIK and from others have said in this thread that is not possible, but if you have it like that then maybe it is somehow.

Yup - same here. Works a treat.

It's just that I have a HOTAS X so buttons are limited, that's why I have mapped it to one of the modifier buttons as the buttons own function. (The button up until then had no function of its own but when pressed in combination with another button changed that juttons function). I don't know whether it is configurable as a on/off button though (maybe some toggle/switch setting?)

In most cases I like the automatic pop up. But in some cases I don't, for example when flying low over a planet's surface looking for POIs.
I didn't want to waste my HOTAS buttons on toggles for each panel but I found a nice solution: I've only disabled auto popup for the "helm" panel which I open with a switch. The other panels still work with auto popup. The nice effect is that when the "helm" panel is open the other windows won't pop up. So every time when I want an unobstructed view out of the side windows I just open the "helm" panel.
