System scans

Very new to the game, apologies in advance. I went to make a trade run to an outpost that the commodity market said was in need of the item. When I got to the system, the outpost wasn't visible in the local system map. So, how do I go about doing a system scan to find outposts, bases, POIs, etc?

Go to the Navigation Beacon, drop out of supercruise. Target the beacon (white target) and wait for the system data to download, then you should see everything.

Alternatively use Full Spectrum Scanner, but it takes longer, as it's an actual exploration tool.

Nav Beacon scan gives you all the info at once. Be aware if it is "Compromised" NB, there will be pirates and other galaxy scum in there, so tread carefully!

shouldn't outposts and stations be visible as soon as you honk the system, i.e. you don't need to do a full scan? You only need the nav beacon or the FSS if you want to find a planetary settlement or outpost.

You may be right actually. I don't remember 100% though, but it does ring a bell. Maybe it's up to some distance?

It depends, usually the stations will be visible and the bodies will be shown as unexplored but sometimes you need to FSS the nearest body to make a station show up.

Well, I'm gonna stay away from the Nav Beacon since looking at it indicated it was 2 classes above my Combat ranking of Harmless. I don't even have guns on this thing. lol
