System Shock

Anyone else enjoying being taunted by SHODAN again? Here almost 30 years later, I am having fun navigating the labyrinth of a space station orbiting Saturn while an AI calls me "insect" and not very politely tries to escort me out.

The change to lighting and the soundtrack are potentially not to everyone's taste. However, at least we can turn the light on as we go. The game is still pure awesome though.

Something for the Suggestions forum: People wanted on-foot indoor gameplay. Maybe Nightdive Studio and Frontier should team up and have fun with some interiors of derelict space ships and stations?

I never played the first one, I started with System Shock 2.

I need to get it, This is a good opportunity to play the original with modern graphics. I believe they haven't changed much at all in terms of story and puzzles?

Although I'm pleased it turned out well, I'm not that interested in the remake since I played the hell out of the original and this one does not really go beyond it (except in places like the intro).

Glad the Cortex Reaver animation is still creepy though.

I good stuck at the freight elevator and never finished it. But I need to check the soundtrack first. How can you not take LoPiccolo's legendary contextual mix of music?

I’ve been waiting nigh on 7 years for the game since backing the Kickstarter - and I’ve decided to wait a little bit longer until the Universal Unreal VR mod comes out which should let me experience Citadel Station in full motion-tracked VR glory.

From what I’ve read it looks like the remake is just what I’d hoped for.

Yeah, look at you, Hacker!

I played the original to bits as well. For some reason, I want to be spanked by SHODAN yet again. Mother?

I had a boxed copy of the original, no idea what happened to the box but I do know I have the original floppy disks! They have a little card band to keep them together. I think they look like this one

Backed on KS, played all the demo beta previews, but not the release yet :)

It waits, patiently, on my pile of doom. Its time will come one day :D

If I recall, the floppies did not include the voice overs for the logs. The CD version did. I think either version has Terri Brosius sneering at us as SHODAN though. I don't remember voice logs from the original System Shock, so I might have had the floppy version as well.

You are correct - I bought the floppy version then the CD-ROM later on in the year for the voice logs; had to show off my new dual-speed drive somehow 😁

One thing that always made me laugh was the gibbon like reach you had.

Plus Terri Brosius was best in Thief IMO. There, I said it.

I finished the original game long ago, also System Shock 2, then the Dead Space series where the first one was almost a shot by shot remake of SS2, then Prey which is System Shock 3 without the name, I dont feel the need to go back to the first now. System Shock 4 / Prey 2 / whatever they want to name it, that's what I'd rather have now.

I have been playing Prey on and off on the PS4. Fun game too! First time I saw Talos in its full Art Deco glory I immediately wanted to play System Shock 1 again. And here it is!

The RPG elements of System Shock 2 annoyed me, but the game was very atmospheric otherwise. It is next on my list when I have finished the this remake of the first game.

The degrading weapons and respawning enemies nearly turned me off the game completely - thankfully a couple of cfg file edits solved those issues and I ended up enjoying the game immensely.

I liked the degrading weapons, because on Impossible I wound up collecting everything and really went to town on management.

With 2 I found the Xeno weapons a bit weak, and the higher tier psi stuff (like teleport) pointless when you can turn invisible.

Saying that I loved SS2. The crazy cyborg nannies are like the lady in Superman 3.....brrrrrr
