system view.. how far is station from NAV point

Hi, I have always used a visual guess as to how far the station is. But today even though in the system map the station is right next to the star I am 220,000 Ls away :(

Typing this will I make the trip.

Also came out at a white start and almost died scary.

Many thanks

anyway to tell?

Yes, target the planet that the station is orbiting. Look for the text on the left info screen 'Semi major orbital axis' 1 AU is roughly the distance from Earth to our sun 500LS

So if the planet you are looking at says 2AU it means it is 1000LS from the star.

If it says 0.5 it is 250LS from the main star.

It get's a bit more complicated with binary systems.

Semi-major axis is bascially the furthest distance an orbiting body can be at.

The distance will be displayed in AU (Astronomical Units, a funky unit of measurement based on average distance our planet orbits the Sun). 1 AU = 499 light seconds.

So, bascially, take the AU distance and then multiply it by 500 to get the estimated distance in LS.

Edit: heh, I'm a slow-typer myself, it seems! Multi-ninja'd. ;D

As soon as the computer starts the frameshift countdown, set your throttle to zero. When you come out at the other side, you should be going at the minimum supercruise speed.
