T-7 or Federal Drop Ship?

Hi guys. I'm looking for some thoughts- good or bad- about my next ship.

I've been having a blast zipping around in my T-6. I don't do trade, I don't do traders, so this is all new to me. I was very plesantly surprised to discover that the T-6 handles wonderfully, relatively speaking. She's amazingly fast and agile for a big box wrapped around 100t of cargo! So much so, I've been annoying wannabe pirates in Eravate and surrounding systems, roadrunner style. :D I'm helpless, people, chase me, chase me!

Still, the reason I'm doing this is to try and help out AA until Ackerman is back in business and they can stabalise the system's economy.

To be more effective I’m looking to drop more cargo. A T-7 can carry twice as much, making it the obvious choice. However, I read very bad things about the old girl, no-one seems to have a good word to say about her. Is it really that bad? Or am I just reading the wrong threads?

Maybe a better idea would be the Federal Drop Ship? Similar price, not nearly as much cargo but faster, more agile and able to fight if I have to. Infinitely better suited to running missions into the bargain. I already fly a Federal Assault Ship and I love it- Cearban is a joy to fly, one of my favourite ships- so I'd feel right at home in the FDS cockpit. But only a little more cargo than I'm already carrying...

Help me choose team; think of the Eravate newbs, think of the cause, think of the pirates who'll finally be able to catch me! :p

I really like both ships. I used my Dropship as a mission running and then a miner for quite a while, and I used my T7 as an explorer (uh, don't ask). Both are really nice to fly, and "pretty" in their own ways.

I think your choice should come down to how much risk do you want to assume. If you want to play it safe, FDS, for the reasons you stated. If you want more of an adrenaline shot, getting interdicted in a T7 will totally do the trick. :D

I would say if you have the empire rank then get the clipper- a fast powerful ship that can carry as much as the T7 for little more price. If not then get the dropship, the T7 is pretty rubbish at everything and will come 2nd best (or worse) after many other ships in all categories

of those two, I'd take a dropship... you probably don't have rank for a clipper, do you? that is an amazing trader!

otherwise i'd suggest getting an Asp as a t6 upgrade, and then for a trading python.

Flying the T-7 would be like bungee jumping without first checking the length of the cord. It has the potential to be satisfying and rewarding. Or it could all just abruptly end in tears.

Dropship for sure, or wait a little and get the iClipper.

:D See what I mean about the T-7? Not a popular choice...

Thanks for all the replies, fellers. :)

You're right Goemon, I don't have the rank for a Clipper- too many slaver missions in the grind for my taste! I have a stripped down, long range Asp for rares and smuggling. Fantastic ship, but it only hauls 40 tons. Python is another good 'un, but very expensive for what I'm doing- short range, lowish value trading. The idea is to be able to carry out a large number of trade transactions in Cleave, as a way of shoring up AA influence in Eravate. Profit is a secondary consideration.

Corlas, I like the way you think! Have you got any tips to avoid getting instablatted the moment I lose an interdiction? The T-7 looks pretty slow, boosting doesn't look like it'll be particularly effective?

Do yourself a favor and avoid getting a dropship.

If you can't get the Clipper, the t7 is the next logical step. After the t7, python, then conda.

Full pips to sys, finger ready on the chaff, and it couldn't hurt to sacrifice a goat or chicken. Alternatively, if it's a Cobra or below, deploy hardpoints and blow it to smithereens!

I actually love the T-7, but only for the "truck-driver in space" feel. It IMO looks and handles like a heavy space trader/freighter should.

The sensible option would probably be to get in early on a Community Goal and bounty-hunt/trade like crazy for a few days, and you can buy whatever you want. But where's the fun in that?
