Horizons T.Flight HOTAS X configuration for Elite Dangerous Horizons

I was looking on these forums for a good T-flight HOTAS X configuration for Elite Dangerous (Horizons), with a good "cheat sheet" of the setup to fly with, and I didn't find any. Yes I found some that weren't ideal, and also I might add they were obsolete and lacked the SRV bindings. The new format includes a binding called <YawAxisRaw> and the old bindings had just plain <YawAxis>, so you had to translate the bindings in order to use them properly. So my configuration file is valid as of 9/19/16. I modified another "cheat sheet" of the setup to show my settings, as seen below.

I really like the way this setup feels when using the buttons, it's magnitudes easier than the other setups I looked at and tried, and MUCH easier to remember what button does what. The other similar setup had the modal (a.k.a. shift) buttons assigned differently, and I found them difficult to use and rearranged their assignment. I find that of the 4-5 modal buttons on the throttle #6 is the most inconvenient-feeling, so I assigned it to miscellaneous, one of the lesser used of the modal buttons. Also, I found that using the hat switch (some call it "POV," stands for "Point Of View") without a modal switch pressed served the menu navigation best, and seemed the most intuitive use.

You can find this bindings file, after you have configured any change to the canned controller setup, in:
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
(Replace <Username> above with your user name). Look for Custom.1.8.binds. It will not be there until you set at least one custom key or button. Always save a copy or your original file somewhere where you won't lose or delete it before making any changes (I am not responsible for your config being messed up and your old config lost). You can always set the game back to a canned default config. Replacing this file will overwrite your keyboard/mouse setup too. You can either copy this text and paste it into your Custom.1.8.binds file yourself (don't forget to press save); or copy my attached file, rename it by removing the ".txt", and copy it to your folder overwriting the present one.

I feel this setup is very ergonomic and easy to remember however there are so many possibilities and subtleties to the possible setups that I can't even come close to calling it the ultimate setup, everyone will have their own opinion on what is the ultimate setup. So I hope that if you try this you will like it, and if so please leave a little kudos feedback thank you.

MODS: Also it would be nice to have a sticky or sub-forum for HOTAS/flightstick configs, not only for Horizons but encompassing all vanilla and DLC controls.

Thank you thank you!!! I am about to get a HOTAS setup. Was eyeing the t flight as the FCS is *still* not out yet. It's a toss up between the x52 pro the thrustmaster warthog or the t flight (I know very different pieces of hardware) but this will really help if I do go for the t flight.

Well after a month of testing I decided to swap two settings: Supercruise & landing gear. They just seemed backward to me, and I never seemed to adjust to that. So if anyone wants the updated cheat sheet for that change, PM me (or I might notice if you just post the request here). Other than that, I do like this control scheme (considering the HOTAS doesn't have about a dozen more buttons, which might eliminate the need to press two simultaneously).

Hi guys, I recently picked up an HOTAS X, the same as the OP. Well I think I did! Y'see, every diagram available on this 'ere site shows the aforementioned throttle with 4 buttons on the right side - but my own throttle has buttons 5, 6, and 7 on the side, with button 8 on the front lower of the throttle. Is this new?

It might just be a simplified diagram. My HOTAS X is two years old and the lowest button is more toward the front of the throttle.

No, not new for me anyway, I think at one time it was new and they didn't update the drawing which was the source for this sheet. Mine is as you describe. And BTW, I am still loving it after using it nearly every day for 2.5 months. I did decide to get a smaller keyboard to go between the two units, and went with a "Drevo Gramr 84 Key Backlit Edition Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Brown Switch," and I really like it, and I am fussy about keyboards and used to premium mechanical switch types. The only thing I don't like about the T.Flight HOTAS X is only a drawback when using the units separately this way: the throttle (and perhaps the stick as well) could be a little heavier, it sometimes slides on my desk instead of the throttle lever moving. Hmm, I wonder if I could take the bottom apart and add weight...

But for US$50 it can't be beat - nothing even comes close.

will you be updating the config file for the Hotas for all the changes in 2.3?, would be great if so, since we now have new controls for Multicrew and new vanity camera controls

the setup is amazing and easy to use. but I have one problem. navigation/maps button 5 isnt working for me for some reason. 6,7,8 working just that 5. no changes maded to config.

Does this HOTAS have a big dead zone and seem fairly unresponsive to you guys? I have the one that's compatable with the PS4 and it feels that way to me. Thanks! o7

Thrustmaster Installation and Configuration Full Guide

Nice post! Thanks! I wasn't able to find all the bits and pieces I needed for a seamless end-to-end install of a HOTAS for Elite Dangerous so I wrote something up myself on Odin Gaming. If anyone's struggling, I recommend checking out that post. (I'm not an expert by any means, but I did at least stumble over a few things before I got it all working.)

I was just wondering what the buttons 5-8 did. Does it change the mode of the buttons? Or do you have to press it alongside another button for the keybind to work?
