T-Ship Experts: Issues with fuel scooping?

A Type 9 will take forever in getting to Colonia. Good luck with that!

Took me a week in a T9 (including exploring) That was unladen with a good roll on a grade 5 FSD. That was before the neutron highway. If I was hauling freight I'd take the Cutter. Plan is to bring a T9 miner back out to Colonia in a few months, definitely taking the highway.

Just arrived at Colonia.

5 ships on offer up to a Python. 10 ships at the Asteroid Base up to a T9.

Outfitting is mostly C/D rated parts. No A rated stuff.

Make sure you A rate from within the bubble. Galactic Logistics take 62 hours to deliver.

Heading back to home system tomorrow!

Thanks for that. Repped.

Thanks indeed for the report. Cements my thought about taking the T6 but...
You just got there and you're headed back already?
Whew! Least have a coffee or make a trade run or something.

It wasn't a wasted trip. Finally did the last asteroid base next to Colonia. Better money to be made back in the bubble :)

My recent trip around the outside of the bubble in a T9 with the biggest A rated fuel scoop that fitted showed me that I could keep the heat under 70% with ease. I did have to be aware of the stellar class before arriving since it changes the way that you scoop. Some stars, class M for example, you can get quite close. Others. G class for example, you should not get close to at all. In all case I would pull up when the fuel scooping was almost completed so that the sun was behind me and then wait until the scoop closed before hitting the jump key and aligning the ship to the target.

I should mention that for this trip I had all my modules enabled. Had I turned off the unnecessary ones I would have run a lot cooler.

Oh, and never turn across the sun after arriving in a T9, always turn towards the closest edge.

Perhaps I'll make a Type-6 version then....

Cut the throttle and run some DD5's and you can just fine.
Go at it full-speed ahead and yeah, that never works.

True enough except I didn't have DD5s at the time and slowing down in a T9 means taking forever to speed up again!

The keelback was lots of fun although it was a humbling experience when coming to terms with the fact that without the casino, it was like sitting on a blast furnace in terms of heat.

So outta the fire and into the frying pan, Im currently in the bubble building up a T9 fer the core. One is learning the hard way that I simply cant keep ignoring the casino if Im being realistic.

Good luck on yer trip out cmdr ^

I used a T6 quite a bit for long range passenger missions and never had a problem with heat when scooping. Not quite as quick as an Asp but I could usually fully refill just flying around the star for the next jump.

I seem to remember that the T6 had a reputation for heating up badly when scooping in the very early days of the game but that it was fixed a long time ago. Sometimes these reputations get passed on in comments when they no longer apply.

Perfect!
And I agree about "old wives tales", perhaps once true, and now accepted as gospel.
That old chestnut of the T7 being a "Flying Coffin" is my (least) favorite.

In any case I have bought my T6 and have it all fitted out - just need to get me a fuel scoop - and tomorrow I start my journey. And I'll buy a T7 (or T9 depending on money) in Colonia to pair up with the 6.
Thanks again to all for the advice and suggestions. Cya out there!

True, but if you need to scoop fuel, and you don't want to expend a decent cargo slot, that means a small scoop, and that means you need the extra time.

I flew a fully-loaded trading Type-7 out to Jaques Station for a CG (before Colonia was named). While there, I used it for some mining and later flew it back to the bubble. I never had any problems with heat.

I used to scoop from the bottom of the ship toward the star, now I roll upside down and scoop with the top facing the star, so I can use the glow as a marker to where I need to be. The ship seems to pull up better than it pushes down, at least to me. This way I can run pretty fast and get maximum scooping while remaining ~ same distance from star, my heat remaining fairly constant.

I find my heat increases more when I complete scooping and turn away from the star, for whatever reason.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about that. I my recent trip I had an 8A fuel scoop as I wasn't trading cargo but scanning star systems.
