Hi all,

I play in Open.

I'm kind of past a T6 as a main delivery mission ship, but not quite got the cash for a T7 yet. Defence of the T6 has always bugged me. Of course, there's the plain submit...boost...boost...jump. I've tried this while laying mines and have had varied success with both NPC and CMDR pilots.

I'm not one for maximising my cargo space. I'll equip the best shields I can, military grade composite, point defence, weapons and so on, so my current T6 build has about 70T rather than around 100T capacity.

I've never used turrets, so, are they a viable choice for defence when running away from interdictors or is just plain running away and ignoring weapons the best bet?

Or I'll just load up a Keelback when they're buffed in 2.2, or refit my AspX when I get back to civilization.

Turrets are better for when you're sticking around to fight, imo (which is a bad idea in a T6, as I am sure you know). If you're just running, mines or weaponless is best.

I am out in deep space in my Type-6 in 2.1 but have just pressed the SD button in Beta5. Back in the Bubble I am playing around building a "hardened" Type-6...so I now have military grade armour, A-class thrusters etc.

I am going to a station now to fit PD turrets. I will play around with other hardpoints to see what works.

I love the Type-6!

Fit 4A thrusters and L5 DDT and your T6 will go like a stabbed rat ;), with the T6 speed is the best and only defence, apart from heavy duty armour on stock bulkheads (no additional mass but a lot tougher) and probably reinforced shields rather than thermal resist (I reckon thermal are better suited to combat ships).

Weapons turrets or mines, in most cases they'll be a distraction to help you make good your escape.

...PD turrets.

What's this?

...L5 DDT...

Hmm...talking Engineers here. As much as I kind of like the idea of engineers, it's a feature I've made the choice to ignore (like PowerPlay) as I just don't have the time. One of those breeders with about 4 hours a week to play if I'm lucky.

Thanks!

I am also a big T6 fan and always have one in the stable.
FWIW I find mines to be quite "iffy."
Sometimes they obviously work and sometimes they don't.

I find when you A-rate your thrusters escape has never been a problem.
As mentioned above, as much as I love her, the T6 is not even close to being combat capable IMHO.

Mines seem like a good choice for a starting player as I just took out an Imperial Clipper (NPC pirate interdicting me) with double minelayers on my T6. I presume that opposition skill/ship build will scale with my combat rating (Mostly Harmless now)? Might want to invest on larger scanner if that happens. But still, I got to see if you CAN have "Dangerous" title driving delivery van of the space.

Also, do shockwave mines really blow the target off course, like it looked like on youtube? Might be useful when combined with good speed the T6 has.
